Will A Noctua NH-D14 fit?

Crazyjedi

I have Corsair Vengence RAM sitting on my Maximus VI Hero Mobo. I am worried that a Noctua NH-D14 cooler will not clear the top of the RAM. I am keen to upgrade my cooling but cannot figure out how to fit an all-in-one CPU water cooler in to my case. Hence I thought the noctaua might do the trick.
I just don't want to spend £60 if the cooler will not fit...
Anyone have experience iwh similar kit?

As If to ram the point home............ My PC just bluescreened. CPU overheat error. UEFI reported the cpu temp at just over 50 degrees at restart.... Doesn't seem critical temps to me.
I was playing "Star Wars The Old Republic" at the time..??..
This PC has been flawless for a couple of years....
What the heck?

Hello Crazyjedi

List your case there are a few different styles of the Raven case, we can take a look to see if it can support a 240mm/280mm radiator and the noctua.

You might want to check to see how well your current cooler is making contact and remount it. If you're doing any overclocking it would be a good idea to set back to defaults or try to lower the voltage some.

You can check compatibility for the MB and RAM at the Noctua page

NH D14 http://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d14.html?comp=1
NH D15 http://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d15.html?comp=1

No problem with PCIe slot with either but NH D14 will not clear Vengeance RAM....D15 maybe if you run single fan

There is a "high compatibility" version....NH D15S http://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d15s.html
or http://noctua.at/en/nh-c14s.html

According to the website my mobo is compatible but the RAM is not...

I use the NH-D15 without any trouble and Crucial's Ballistix RAM, which I believe is a bit taller than the Vengeance heat spreaders.

To make it fit, I moved the fans (airflow to left) from a (RAM side) fan-sink-fan-sink (left) arrangement to a (RAM side) sink-fan-sink-fan (left) config. No sweat.

EDIT: Downside - negative pressure tends to cause more dust buildup.

Crazyjedi you may find these 2 links helpful, link 1 , link 2. I'm guessing you don't have Vengence LP RAM?

Like Nate said give some further info on your case, another route is possibly modding the case to what you require?

I reckon I could house a 420mm rad setup at the front of my case by sacrificing some 5.25" bays. I have a very old SilverStone TJ 06 case (circa 2004) to house components of PC, as I wasn't going WC'd I just did other mods (circa Q1/15) to rejuvenate it 🙂 .

Out of box config (never have used the wind tunnel)

First 3.5" cage removed, simple as drilling out the pop rivets.

Next due to certain holes in front sheet I deemed it better to use dremel to create cutout, then make a mount using perspex (octagon was nice easy shape to cut).

In below test fit photo you'll note while I was at these mods I created 2x SSD mounts on internal HDD cage, 2x 92mm outtake fans and a cable routing hole near MOBO sata ports.

Not a popular choice but you can remove/mod the ram's heat spreaders. It worked for me.

It is an RV03 Case. The bottom of the case is occupied by the two huge Air Penetrator Fans and top by one fan plus all of the I/O's.
There is a fan bay at the back of the case but, whilst it would take a single fan it could not take a fan/rad assembly as the HD Audio socket on the mobo would obstruct it.
I have the standard Corsair Vengence RAM with the aluminium heat spreaders, not the LP versions unfortunately. What detriment is there to removing the heat spreaders?

You have the centre ones in image below?

Chips can come off PCB depending on how strong bonding tape is, if it's adhesive I probably wouldn't risk removal. Viewing this video held on by tape, just like manufacturers can possibly go with a differing IC for RAM I'd assume they may change their method of bonding, but dunno really.

Most spreaders are for show then function, as long as case airflow good I wouldn't have any qualms running RAM without spreaders.

I'd google how people have done water cooled setup's for ideas, if hose length long enough on AIO solution perhaps mount rad outside case? custom loop setup, another post with images/ideas.
