VIII Extreme with SLI and M.2 SSD

Hi guys,

Just about starting a new build and so far selected the components shown below:

CPU: Intel i7 6700k
Motherboard: Maximus VIII Extreme
Storage: Samsung MZ-V5P512BW 950 Pro NVMe 512 SSD
(Another HDD for mass storage)
GPU: GTX 980Ti (x2 in SLI)

My question is concerned with the SLI and M.2 SSD. Will there be enough PCI lanes for both the SLI GPU's (running on PCI 3.0 dual x8 lanes I'm guessing) and the M.2 SSD (which is using PCI 3.0 x4)?

Thanks for the help. 🙂

Yes that will be fine...the GPUs run off the processor the M2 drive from the PCH/chipset so the M2 drive will not be stealing from the PCIe GPU lanes. You'll still have x8x8 GPUs.

Assuming you are talking about running it in the M2 interface...if you want to run it on an expansion card in a PCIe lane then it will eat bandwidth and drop you top x8x4x4

Yes, that configuration will work without hiccups. Menthol is running a similar configuration as yours and he even has an Intel 750 in the mix. 😛
