    Ah now I see!!!
You have not selected the Firmware file to install. Click the button '....' (next to the gray box). This will open a file explorer dialogue and you will need to navigate to the driver folder for version 1.01.17 and into the folder FBFW. It will then show you two files which can be selected. The first one doesn't work! Chose the second file and hopefully you'll have an updated firmware after pressing the Start button. Good luck!!!

Ok, I just tested on mine and I am running the same 'Front Base Firmware Update utility V1.0.4.7' that you have pictured.
First of all when I open the Firmware Update Utility the status under the white box says 'Front Base ready' and 'USB connected'.
When I click on the '....' button I have to navigate to the Front Base Driver folder and the FBFW folder, it then presents me with the choice of two files. The first is called FB035Ex_V48d.H00 and the second is called FB035Exv48.H00 and it is this one that works.
Once I have selected the file the status under the white box changes to show the file path, mine is C:\Temp\FRONTBASE_1.01.17\FBFW\FB035Exv48 (Maybe this has something to do with your failed attempts? I notice that you have spaces in the path name. Its a long shot but try placing the FBFW folder in the root C: folder instead?)
Once I click start it rattles through several messages and the progress bar increases whilst on the programming stage and it finally ends with 'Front Base - EC_Mode Pass!'. This is the same message that you have in your screen shot! Are you sure that the firmware update failed?

I'm not sure that I understand. All files are contained in the driver folder which can be downloaded from the ASUS website. Here is the direct link for the Windows 10 64 bit version.... http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...700.1456523834

This is what I don't understand? Your photo in the post #27 above looks like it has successfully flashed the firmware?
If you fully shutdown windows and then press and hold the select knob on the Front Base for 5s, what does it show in the top right hand corner?

    OK I see. Thank you.
This is exactly the fault that I have every time I turn the power off to the PC. It is damn annoying and ASUS Tech Support have recommended that I RMA the unit. But I'm certain that this is a software issue and RMA'ing the unit will most likely see me in a worse position!

Anyhow, to fix the problem this is what you must do. Follow these steps exactly and hopefully it will work for you too. Please report back if successful or not! The steps must be followed exactly, I'll try to be as thorough as possible....
    1. Make sure that you have both V1.01.15 and V1.01.17 drivers downloaded and the files extracted to your PC.
V15 can be found here.... http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...700.1456523834
V17 can be found here.... http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...700.1456523834
These links are for Windows 10 64 bit (I think that you probably already have both)
    2. Install Windows Driver V1.01.17 (From the info provided, I think that you can start from the next step!)
    3. Use the 'ROG FRONT BASE' application that is located in the FBFW folder of driver version v1.01.15 to flash V47 (Filename FB035Exv47) to the Front Base. (Note that the default file location is always the last firmware you installed)
    4. Shutdown Windows completely. NB. A restart will not work, it must be a full shutdown! But leave the PSU switched on so that the motherboard still has power.
    5. When fully shut-down press and hold the Front Base select knob for 5s and confirm that V47 has been loaded successfully, it should be displayed in the top right hand corner.
    6. Start the PC up again and log into Windows.
    7. Now use the 'ROG FRONT BASE' application to load V48 firmware into the Front Base. This is located in the FBFW folder for V1.01.17 driver, the Filename is FB035Exv48.
    8. Now with a little luck the Front Base will display correctly until the next full power off of the PC.

I have noticed that when the Front Base does not display the audio preset section, the top right-hand corner displays 'M8H' which is the Motherboard model. But when it is working properly and displaying audio presets along with every thing else it displays 'ASUS' in the top right hand corner.
I have reported this to ASUS Tech support as I'm sure that it will assist in determining what is different but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Please, if this has worked for you or indeed for anyone else, I beg you to report the issue still to ASUS. If enough people report the problem then we may get to see a fix some time in the future! Maybe wishful thinking but we can hope
