Ddr4 settings on maximus Viii extreme

Hi maximus Viii extreme up and running, ticking along nicely, I have CPU at 4.2 at the moment and everything working as it should except memory, Gskill 2by 8 meg ddr4 3400 cas 16 running fine but only at stock 2133.
I would like to get this running as close to the 3400 as I can ( stable) and I know I need to up the settings for ddr and system agent but unsure of exactly what to tweek and by how much by.
I have seen Nate, Chino and others comment on this subject, so hoping someone can help advise.
Also how do I get Fps to display on screen during gaming.
Thanks in advance.

Just a point, the corsaire carbide inverted case I use looks good but what a pain to remember q codes are upside down, lol

Hi Rob W.

You will likely need to increase the vccio and cpu system agent voltage and possibly the Dram voltage.

VCCIO voltage 1.15v - 1.25v
CPU Sytsem Agent voltage 1.15v - 1.25v
Dram voltage up to 1.40v if needed

To see information about your gpu/cpu when playing games I use msi afterburner, if you install HWInfo it can show cpu temps and usage too.

Start at the bottom of page 4 and if you need any help just say so.

Hi Nate. Should I enable or disable xmp for this and use manual settings

You can try it with XMP then if it gives you trouble you can try it manually.

Hi.
Had a tweek around tonight, have ddr4 running at 3395 thanks Nate.
Whilst in there CPU now running at 4.6 with no temp probs, no signs of instability yet but will keep an eye on it as air cooled.
Feelin smugg.

You're welcome

That looks pretty good Rob, you can take the BCLK up a notch or two to get it to 3400MHz.

Misread the frequency on ram, so settings are
BCLK. 103.0
CPU Core Ratio, Per core 46,46,45,45
BCLK :DRAM frequency ratio. Auto
DRAM freq: DDR4-3021mhz. ( I set it to 3400 but it keeps changing back )
Extreme tweaking. Disabled
TPU. TPU1
CPU core cache current limit max. Auto
Min 41 max 41
CPU core/cache voltage. ( 1.42) offset mode
Mode sign. +
DRAM Voltage ( 1.360v) 1.3500
CPU VCCIO Voltage. ( 1.280v ). 1.25000
CPU system agent (1.024 varying between 1.016 ). 1.000000

In AL suite CPU frequency is now showing as 4738Mhz temp 34degC
DDR4 showing frequency of 3021Mhz , target cache frequency 4223 MHz
As I push the DDR4 up so does the CPU go up but at a far greater percentage, I think I am pushing my luck with CPU on4738mhz air cooled.
Have been running Star Citizen for hours last night and again this morning, system is stable, game flows realy smoothly and CPU runs at a max of 54deg C.
Can't upload results from cpu-z as al suite stops responding every time try to do anything with it, this has been going on since before any O/C, will have to remove and reinstall it again.

If you uninstall ai suite III run this cleaner after uninstalling.

I wonder if setting TPU to TPU1 is maybe causing your ram not to go to 3400MHz, I have TPU set to "Use Current Settings"

The BCLK can overclock very far on z170, what you can do is lower the cpu core ratio and keep pushing up the BCLK, you have a lot of room to play with it.

Or, set the BCLK to 100 and set your ram manually, it shouldn't be changing back after you set the frequency, so try the TPU to"Keep Current Settings"

Give me a few minutes and I'll post a screen shot of my BCLK at 300. 🙂

I can overclock my ram from 2400MHz to 3200MHz but when setting the BCLK to 300 I have to back the speed down to 2400MHz or it doesn't want to go.

When running a high BCLK you have to set the FCLK to 400, how it works is BCLK 300 x FCLK 400 = 1200MHz system agent clock. When running BCLK 200 I set the FCLK to 800 and that puts the system agent clock at 1600MHz.

Going from 100 BLCK to 300 BCLK does give a small performance boost but cutting the ram back to 2400MHz might negate it LOL. It does raise cpu temps, here are two screenshots one with 200 BCLK and one with 300 BCLK.

By the way you're pretty much doing on air what I'm doing on water. I'm just showing you this to show how much room you have to play with the BCLK.

The Bus Clock is the BCLK.
