Anyhow will get a new PSU in a day or two, install it, reseat the CPU, use the third pcie slot for the GPU, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals and try it out again.

Well that's also a good way to diagnose. But still I think that you should stick with the XMP defaults from your memory instead of trying to squeeze a little more, since them doesn't give you any instability.

    Ok, so this just in...

I've installed the new PSU, re-seated the CPU and the RAM modules, practically remounted everything.
Also used the 980ti... Didn't get any picture on the DP even though the MB booted to BIOS (saw it on the OC panel). Anyhow hooked the screen to HDMI port turned off/on the computer. The picture was there (at the end DP was working well too).
OK, so I did a BIOS 2001 reflash and started tweaking the system.

I've ended up with 4.5G CPU OC (1.25Vcore, 100bclk), 3G 16,16,16,36,2T at 1.355V boot and 1.35V eventual and it booted to windows with no probs.
Passed the stresstestapp, ROG stress test, MEMtest, SPI32, cinebench, Sisoft Sandra multicore stress test...and got a freeze on Sandra Encryption test. Damn...almost had it in my hand

Ok, so I am still running unstable... I'll go and throw everything at the system (Sisoft, Aida, Rog, stresstestapp, HCI memtest, SPI32, Cinebench, PC Mark 8...), but this time only for the CPU OC (leaving the memory on the lowest speed -1600MHz or smth), want to get that out of the way.

BTW: I do boot in windows with 3.2G 16,16,16,36,2T at 1.355V (all else left auto), but get a blue screen when running ROG. Should I try and tinker with this freq and get it stable or try 3GHz, which is kinda "working" out of the box?
What should I start tweaking the first - VCCSA?

I'd try 3000 first...from what you said above it's almost stable...give it a bit more voltage 1.36v vdimm or yeah, tune vccsa....what is auto setting at the moment or what do you have set?

    What BSOD message?

The VCCSA on auto is usually set at 0.856V...

And Max you are right... I was wondering about that, I had the VCCSA at 1.152-1.160 when booting with 1.355V on my DIMMs, and of course failed on Realbench. Do the auto settings go berserk from time to time? Probably better to fix the value then.

When tempering with the SA, best to keep it around 0.856V (+-), right?

A whole lot of testing for just a minor tweak. Damn...

You have to take some time with this voltage...use the offset and increase slowly...0.05...0.1v see if about 0.95 1.00v helps maybe more...but yeah XMP sets a lot often

Yes...finally. Got it stable (at least to this point).
    CPU - 4.5G @1.25V (fixed)
    RAM - 3G @1.36 (16, 16, 16, 36, 2T) - 0.856V VCCSA
Tested for 2 days with all the modules in Sisoft Sandra, AIDA64, SuperPI 32, stresstestapp, Memtest, RealBench, Cinebench, PC Mark8, games...

I've gone adaptive now, with +0,008V VCCSA offset, running stable, but still need to redo all the tests on this setting.

If I get it stable here I'll go and tighten the DDR timings. Also check if I can get the CPU to run 4.6G on this voltage (long shot).

Hmmm I thought adaptive cache does not work still. I don't think Intel got this working.... though I haven't looked this up lately....
