Now they re-uploaded it. So either it was an accident on someone's behalf, a false alarm or something.
I went ahead and upgraded my M8 Impact to 1601 when it appeared in EZ Flash. Seems to be working fine.

Though if there is something amiss re: this particular BIOS update, ASUS should let us know.

It seems virtualization and Vt-d doesn't work with this bios, at first I thought it was something wrong with my Windows install and tried like everything. Looks like nothing happens when toggling Virtualization on/off in bios. Big no-no, going back to 1504 and hopes the UEFI hasn't got corrupted.

edit. didn't help reverting to 1504, I will have to try with removing battery etc, virtualization is dead.

edit2. formatting the system-disk and do a fresh install didn't solve it either, so I'm back at 1601 again. Haven't tried the battery trick yet though. It seems it's not only the bios which is buggy, but it is the Windows 10 Hyper-V functionality which once turned on(I've tested it) never can be fully reverted. It looks like it leaves some garbage in UEFI when turned off, and after that can't be turned on again - it even disables VT-x/VT-d permanently, cleaning WIndows or even do a fresh install doesn't help. This is ridiculous.

edit3. So I turned on Hyper-V again, and it works just fine, running Ubuntu right now with no problems. But Intel processor ID utility still reports VT-x/VT-d as turned off. Crazy. It's like Hyper-V has taken permanent ownership over the whole VT-thing. Foul play may be going on, as this means neither Virtualbox nor VMWare will ever work again on a box where Hyper-V was once turned on ... damned UEFI, I miss good old Dumb-Bios.

Well, well I will have to do as Microsoft wants and keep using Hyper-V to enjoy my VT-x, as it is apparently not easily reversible on this mobo/Windows 10-combo. Most annoying thing with Hyper-V is that there is no Linux-driver that supports higher than 1920x1080 res. Apart from that, the bios is working fine.

Same problem over here with fans not spinning after updating from 1504 to 1601.

    CHA_FAN1 - NF-A14 iPPC-2000 IP67 PWM - works correctly in [PWM Mode].
CHA_FAN2 - NF-A14 iPPC-2000 IP67 PWM - only starts spinning when powering on in [DC Mode], switching to [PWM Mode] later works correctly.
    CHA_FAN3 - NF-A14 iPPC-2000 IP67 PWM - works correctly in [PWM Mode].
CHA_FAN4 - NF-A14 iPPC-2000 IP67 PWM - only starts spinning when powering on in [DC Mode], switching to [PWM Mode] later works correctly.

I am having problems with the 1601 BIOS on the M8Impact. Fan Control messes up once I try to click optimize fans. And if it works it crashes at the end and leaves the fan control for my water pump with 100%.

Is it possible to get modded 1601 for Maximus VIII Formula? And even maybe GENE, Ranger, and Hero for those who would like it?
