Hope its ok to just hop in here. but iv been thinking about overclocking my ram a bit as well. was in the bios copying the timings for 1,2,3 and when i get to the 3dr timings my too show different
    tRWDR2: 6 6 6 5
    tRWDD: 6 6 6 5
    tRWSR2: 5 5 5 4

so im i right in saying to turn xmp off and set all the timings from xmp by hand. then try going from 2400 to 3000 but with the setting for 2400 at 1.35v. sorry im a right noob when it comes to ram

update. i give it a go set all the timings went from 2400 to 3000 lots and lots and lots of beeps. use safe boot set them back to 2400 for now.

Thsi will depend on a few things of course....your IMC....your particulat RAM kit...some OC some don't so much etc etc

Maybe go in steps...2T to 1T 2400 to 2666 try a bit more DRAM volatge...that sort of thing

Woohoo, 700% with 0 errors. I presume I can walk away from that confident of rock solid stability? I will do another 10 hour OCCT run just to make sure everything's working right when I'm done messing around.

Now to get greedy and see if I can at least get to CR1.

Is there anyone here who knows tertiary timings well enough to look at them and say "that number seems excessively loose, should be easy to tighten"? Are there any guides or compilations of other people's RAM settings that would make a good baseline?

Try and get tRRD to 4, tWR to 12 or 9, tRTP to 4, tFAW to 16, tWTR to 4 (some kits already have this at 3)

Tertiaries just try and convert 1s to 0s, 3s to 2s and see how that goes....this can be long and boring...change one timing test a few runs in AIDA to see if it helps scores...if so which up what down....run SPi32M to see if it helps...

I don't know any formulas for this stuff just trial and error for much of it....

Using RAMMON you can sometimes see what your min possible value for tRFC is...

CR1 seems to be working for the moment, sweet.

I will give RAMMon a look, thanks. And looks like I'll finally have to actually pay for Aida, sigh.

Ok, I played around with a number of settings, mostly the secondary timings (both from Arne's suggestions and from a bunch of lower secondary timings that my BIOS set after a failed attempt to run 14-14-14-32), and the few that worked didn't yield any performance improvement at all. I've already devoted more time than I planned, but the results of what I did accomplish seem pretty decent to me.

Even just trying to drop CAS by 1 (so 14-15-15-35) was a complete and total no-go. I don't feel like forcing it, so I'm thinking of staying with this. Do these numbers look decent/reasonable?

Doing this raised my top score in FFXIV Heavensward at 1440p from 21500 to 21891, so about 1.6%. No difference at all in Heaven Benchmark running in 3D Vision. Firestrike seems to average a little better but that test is so inconsistent between runs, who can tell. I'll see what effect it had on Realbench tomorrow.

Yep, and with no change in System Agent either - still on Auto, 0.880v. I might be able to get tighter timings if I were willing to play with it, but I know how much of a pain in the ass that particular voltage is, and I don't feel like stepping from 0.880v to 1.05v in 0.01v increments, lol. Overall, I'd say mission accomplished.

Tangentially related to your ddr tuning here, I had to chuckle when I finally got 3000 CAS14 2T 128G working yesterday.

Performance of one of my daily driver work-loads dropped by 12% vs 2800 CAS12 1T.

Still investigating this, though all other settings are equal, this does represent a move from X99PRO to R5E (same chip). So, all other things are not equal. The result is repeatable though, I've run the job a few times now and it is consistently ~12% slower. Next step when I have some time is to go back to 2800 12/1T and see if that result matches the X99PRO?

    Yep, confirmed and wow...

As much as 15-16% slowdown from 2800@12-12-12-32-1T to 3000@14-14-14-34-2T. Same everything (cpu, ram, board, os, etc... ) just changed timing and reboot.

This is a 16Thread load job, not the warmest my machine can get, but close (though much cooler now with some loop changes). In this case it was a 20minute run and the 15% slowdown i repeatable...

Lots of random memory access in there and about 4G physical/resident memory image for the application.

Of course if I could live with "only" 64G, that kit does 3200@14-14-14-34-1T and I know that would be faster than 2800@12 from other benchmarking, though only something on the order of 5%.
