Hey all,

I'm at witts end. I've replaced my SSD, CPU, GPU, mobo (twice), sata cables and I'm still fighting a2/b2 post issues.

I honestly can't figure out what to do at this point, except try new memory. I currently have 64gb of gskill F4-2800C16Q-32, which is not on the QVL. The 2666 variant is though.

So if I am going to buy something new, should I stick to the QVL? Sadly those for this board aren't on Amazon. The list of supported memory for this board is actually quite small.

Any feedback?

Hi adambean

Do you have post issues with default settings? It looks like you are combining two 32GB ram kits which is never a good idea and is probably why you are having issues.

How does it go with a 32GB kit installed?

When looking at ram kits always go by the ram manufacturers QVL list, the G.Skill Ripjaws 4, 64GB, 2800MHz ram kit is listed compatible with asus x99 motherboards.

I just went to a single kit (all red slots), same thing.

Either a2, b2 or constant start up and reboot.

I ordered new memory, but it was a 32gb kit. Now that you've told me they should be a single kit, I need to change my purchase.

Should I go 2666 or 2800?

Yes, I have had on and off issues with default settings.

I did not realize using two separate kits was a bad idea? Is there documented truth to that?

Further, I had heard that 2666 is better for this board, any truth there?

Ok, so ... I went back to the single kit and after resetting bios and tricking the startup to not see a keyboard (this mobo...), I'm back up and running. Reality is, no way to know if this will hold.

Anyway, I think I have to move forward with trying new memory being that I've replaced EVERYTHING else.

Any suggestions on a solid 64gb kit that's properly supported? Was thinking this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231820

Which is sad, because it's basically the same as mine, just slightly faster and a 64gb kit. Or do I save $65 and go with the 2400? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231832

Try running a single kit of your 2800 MHz RAM at 2666 MHz.

Well, I am now back up and operable, with all sticks back in ... all at default. I'm getting tired of playing with the OC game and debating just leaving everything at stock. Which is obviously insanely stupid for how much I paid for this setup.

So I guess a couple things ...
1) Do I really need to OC my ram?
2) Do I really need a 64gb kit vs. dual 32's?

2400MHz is the sweet spot for DDR4 in most situations. As for memory kits, get a single kit with the capacity and speed that you want.

You only need 64GB of ram if you use programs that need that much, if you're just gaming 32GB is way more than enough even 16GB is plenty. If you can get one of your 32GB kits at 2666MHz - 2800MHz or even 3000MHz you could just do that.

It's not necessary to overclock your ram but it's nice to get it running at its rated specs.
