@Ntwlf. Well I never. I don;t remember picking one format or the other when installing. Weird.

But, as you asked and you had probably guessed I appear to be using MBR. I have learnt something so today hasn't been wasted
For those who don't know how to check, this link will show how. It's for Win8 but it works for Win7 too.

@TaintedShirt, Sorry I didn't think to add a method of checking MBR or GPT format. But thanks for providing one. I edited my earlier reply adding the method of checking and giving you credit for providing it.

This link explains a method of installing Windows Vista/7 X64 to a GPT formatted drive. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/th...-table.167245/ So this may explain why your drive is formatted in MBR. As I'm learning, it appears that the Windows installation files/media needs to be booted as EFI to install to/or create a GPT formatted disk.

@Dweezle, quote: "Is this confined to only ASUS boards? I wonder how many OEMs have ASUS boards" From the links provided by sk2play and ChiefZeke, the ASUS boards are the only ones affected. Without being an ASUS insider, I don't think anyone knows how many OEM's use ASUS boards.

@sk2play, sorry if I appear to be taking over your thread, it wasn't the intent. It does appear relevant though. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
As to your earlier question (Linux multi-boot), I have no experience with any non-windows OS's, but an MBR formatted drive appears to be your solution.
