Hero RAM speeds running SLOW?!

So i have a buddy of mine that has had this build for a while now with no priblems. I had him just send me some normal spec info to look at as he is thinking of upgrade a few things and i see his RAM speeds.

Here are his specs

CPU
Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.00GHz
RAM
16.0GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24) Ram Type

Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. MAXIMUS VII HERO
BIOS
Version 3103
Date 3/9/2016
Graphics
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti (EVGA)

I wanted to know what we could do to speed up this ram or would he be better off upgrading it? If so what 32GB combo works best with the stuff he has?

Hi Rammstein874

He could try overclocking it or a 16GB dual channel ram kit is plenty for gaming.

This ram kit would go nice with the maximus vii hero.

Yeah that's the thing i don't understand... This is a Dual Channel Kit why is the system board only seeing at a single? Maybe that is the reason why this is happening?

Check on the extreme tweaker tab - GPU/DIMM to see both sticks are showing up at 1333MHz.

DDR stands for double data rate so 666MHz = 1333MHz, I'll take it cpu-z is reporting this?

If he's using the RipjawsX 2400MHz set the AI overclock tuner to XMP, this will set the ram to its rated specs.

He probably put the ram in two slots on one channel (the different coloured slots next to each other). Move the ram to slots #2 and #4. Or any combination of the same colour will work.
Asus ROG G55VW:
CPU: i7 3630QM
GFX: Geforce GTX660M with 2GB ram
RAM: 2x8Gb 2133MHz Kingston HyperX Impact (surprisingly the G55VW uses the 2133 X.M.P. profile)
Storage: RAID0 with 2x 256Gb Crucial SSDs (both msata, one in a sata adapter)
OS: Windows 10 x64
