HI,

I have ASUS ROG G552VW-CN288D ... Unfortunately it happened to be too hot during idle at the area where left palm rest. Right palm rest area is cool, however most of the time my right hand holding the mouse 🙂
CPU usage is 2%, memory 18%

It happened when playing an old game that i left my xbox joystick on the left side of laptop... i guess the joystick was near melting temp when i move it.

The only unusual that i can notice is generally high temp during play of undemanding games as warcraft 3 and shank 2, and lower CORE #3 temp. Neither Acer aspire 5740 nor Dell 5721 get so hot at palm area!
I will get a temp gun later to check palm area temp.

Should i consider service for this laptop? What could be the problem?

p.s
Original wifi driver got a problem to connect to some wifi on ch13... I`m using latest intel driver for wifi, they work ok.

If you are comfortable opening up the laptop to see the Fan(s) and Heatsink, check for regular dust and debris blocking the Heatsink fins.
On some models, you many need to remove the fan to get to the dust that is blocking airflow.
This would be 'regular' maintenance if the unit is out of warranty.

Notebook is 45 days old.

Normally it is enough just to blow back the fun, while the notebook is stopped.
I wonder what is experience of other owners of G552VW-CN288D or GL552VW. It is the same notebook... I use now latest firmware GL552VW-AS.218

I believe you are experiencing a defect Motherboard on that laptop if it is 45 days old. It would not be a CPU issue although it could possibly be a TIM issue. Warranty repair is my suggestion.

Just succeed to set up the system and now need to delete everything to send it for service. I guess they will do nothing as usual 🙂

I measure temps deg C at idle. Fun at 300-400rpm

If I were you I'd go to the service center where you bought your laptop and wait till they send you an answer/fix the issue.

I have worked for an OEM company doing onsite customer warranty repair and to be honest its kind of shocking how blocked heatsinks can become. one I did looked like it had half a cats worth of hair in it and it smelled burned. Also, some heatsinks lose the ability to transfer the heat from the CPU pad and just blow out cool air while the CPU roasts. Lastly, this may no longer be a big issue but thermal compound stops being effective after a period of time.

No. I try different drivers no any success. So now I use "Notebook fun control" at auto and it keep fun at about 1400rpm when browsing. At least I can keep my hands comfortably over the keyboard.

I am not sure what thermal compound ASUS uses and I would think it would be better quality than, say, HP or Dell. I use thermal compound way higher quality than I actually need just so it doesn't fall short. That said, if it turns out to be stock compound I have seen it go bad after 6 months of use. good luck and keep us updated please.
