G751JY i7 4710HQ only using two cores? [solved]

I have started to notice slow CPU performance lately, and it seems I have only two cores available, while the i7 4710HQ in my laptop should have 4. CPU-Z reports 2 cores and 4 threads. Other testing software gives me results on only two cores. Any suggestions?

Have you tried checking on the UEFI to see if they're all activated?

This is almost always caused by a setting in Windows.

msconfig - Boot tab - Advanced Options...

Make sure Number of processors is NOT checked. Click on OK and reboot so Windows can find all 4 cores of your CPU.

If someone set that to 4, that is 4 virtual cores (threads), not 4 real cores so you end up with 2 cores / 4 threads.

I found the problem just after posting this, and the solution was what "unclewebb" said. Anyways, thanks for your replies. Happy 4 core user now :)!
