[Solved] Maximus VIII Impact incompatibility with Asus GTX 1080

I just got my GTX 1080 founders edition and the motherboard is running it at PCIe 8x instead of 16x.

Bios version is 1701. Bios detects the GPU as running at 8x and GPU-Z the same.

Do you have U.2 drive installed? It will take some PCIE bandwidth. Did you get latest GPUZ for 1080
Sincerely,
Legolas

- Asus Maximus VIII IMPACT Bios 1701
- Intel 6700K
- 2x 8GB 3200MHZ CL12
- Asus GTX1080 Founders Edition on the only PCIe slot
- Samsung 850 Evo 1TB SSD Sata
- 4TB Seagate HDD Sata
- LiteON Slim DVDR ODD Sata
- Oculus Rift CV1 on USB 3.0 x2 and GTX1080 HDMI
- 1080P monitor on GTX1080 DVI
- all other USB ports filled with stuff ( mouse, keyboard, monitor calibrator, Logitech G27, Oculus xbox controller )

My previous TITAN-X worked at 16x with the exact same setup.

I don't have this board, but are you sure the PCIE lane is a x16 not x8 speed? Have you tried other PCIE connection or just this one?

Test GTX 1080 on another motherboard to verify if it still 8X. Test Titan X on M8I and check if you get 16X. If so, something is wrong with 1080
