ASUS released a bios that increases Micron memory stability, you could run the bios installer to see you have this version (1.02).
Select your operating system then scroll down to BIOS - UTILITIES
https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Car...Desk_Download/
If you do have the latest bios version and still have to downclock below factory specs, this should warrant an RMA. ASUS has a 3 year warranty on their gpu's, purchase date will determine if you're eligible for an RMA.
Let's see first if you have bios 1.02 installed and if things improve.
When doing your testing, open GPU Tweak II with the monitoring. Run a test then take a screenshot of GPU Tweak II, post it here so we can take a look.
Thank you.

Hi Ghostmk
Two things will cause your ROG Strix 1070 to throttle, either temps are too high or you're hitting the power limit. With the Strix cooler I highly doubt temps are a problem, to combat the power limit you could try overclocking with no voltage increase and power limit to 112%.
Flashing the OBG bios to your BG gpu is risky and could turn your gpu into a brick rendering it useless, and I won't recommend it because of this. I'm not saying it can't be done, I personally never tried it and the risk to reward likely isn't worth it.
What you have isn't the worst overclock, try with 0 voltage and 112% power limit to see if there is an improvement in the core clock.Last edited by Nate152; 11-25-2020 at 02:04 AM.

i will try with 0 voltage increase, my temps never go above 63C thats with a fan curve , but i'v also tried it with 100% fans all the time and the temperature is even lower than that and still same issue occurs

Temps are superb, let's see what happens with no voltage increase.

Update
Hey,
Will try the bios fix. Sadly the card started artefacting 1 month after the 3 year warranty ran out. I have already contacted Asus but they just told me to "buy a new GPU" and that they cant do anything when its out of warranty.
No 3080s available in Germany sadly, so i'm hoping the card will last until some are available. Getting pretty desperate though
Thanks for your help, will reply when testing is done.Last edited by Malte Spielt; 11-27-2020 at 04:29 PM. Reason: added info

You're welcome
Yeah, the Nvidia 3000 gpu's are hard to come by here in the u.s. too, AMD isn't doing any better with their stock either. Let's hope after the 1st of the year stock gets better.
I'm looking forward to your test results.

i tried your settings and my gpu goes to like 65 degrees and it crashes, i decreased gpu speed by 2 notches and still crashing in valley, tell me one: do i only need to decrease the gpu boost clock and leave everything else like you wrote on OP ? I don't need to touch other stuff? ty

Sorry for the late reply.
The update is for Strix 1070's with Micron memory, it helps with Micron memory stability and overclocking. All later ROG Strix 1070's should have the latest Vbios update. You can run the update to be sure, if you have the latest update it will tell you, you don't need to update.
If you're having issues with overclocking, reset to defaults and start over with overclocking the Boost Clock first. Once you find the maximum Boost Clock then move on to overclocking the memory.
You can let the voltage at 0% to help combat the power limit and set the power target to the maximum.
65c is a nice temp, no issue there.
If you can post us a screenshot of GPU Teak II with your overclock, that would be great !
