    Yikes...yes, that's going to be a problem...

A thought....I have a fan blowing at the VRM here...since my board is on a bench table and suspended of the surface 2cm the heatsink on the mosfets on the back of the board as well as the heatsink on the front are cooled....I wonder if you point a fan at the area things get any better...

But yeah, I'd still investigate the mounting

I tried taking off last night, and remounting. The temps stayed about the same, but I couldn't get one of the screws off all the way.

So, I just attempted a reinstall of the vrm block, and they're still at 45 C on stock. The one thing I noticed is I can't get the vrm chips to imprint on the thermal pad. Even though I'm holding down and clamp those screws evenly on each side. Any suggestions? Is it fine to put a lot of pressure on the vrms?

Difficult to troubleshoot this kind of thing from a distance....if there is no imprint on thermal pads...sounds like there is no contact.

So, I'd have to ask if the block is the right one for the board etc.

Yeah, it's the right model for the board. This is the specific kit I have. http://www.performance-pcs.com/ek-fb...el-acetal.html

maybe wrong block in right packet?....I don't know...just sounds all wrong...touching RAM....not fitting onto mosfets....bad block?

I never water-cooled RVE vrm because the DCu stock heatsink probably cools better than a block through a thermal pad....

If the block is from EKWB, I think they recommend to put some thermal compound on the chips before putting the thermal pad over them.

Currently, I'm talking to EK about how to improve my mounting. It looks like the fact I didn't remove the paper thin spacers provided by Asus might be the cause. I'm going to have to figure out how to remove those, they seem to be glued on there pretty well.

I know it's not a flow issue, as flow rate has no impact on the vrm temps.

Yeah, they do. The first time I mounted it about a year ago, I did do that and I did get slightly better temps. Temps were still a bit higher than I was expecting based on reviews of the monoblock. I get that this isn't the monoblock, but I thought this would have similar impact.

I swapped my ek pads with these:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZSELP3O/

they're expensive, but my temps dropped and remained more stable during stress. When I was getting 50 and up during stress, I am now getting 41-42. I got two, one for the back of the mobo and one for the front. I got the 1.0 mm thick pads and they make decent contact with my EK X99 monoblock. I'm using a Strix X99 MoBo.

Are you using pads on both sides?

FYI the pads come in different thickness, 1.5 MM may help you.
