Because they really need new version of board.
They had 1 ROG X99 board, launched before processors. MSI had 5-6 high end models, now even more.
Godlike,
Godlike Carbon,
Titanium,
X99A Gaming ACK
X99A Gaming 7,
3-4 X99S Gaming version,
X99A Power AC,
X99A MPower,
2-3 X99S Power series,
all of these boards are E-ATX premium X99 boards and special ATX standard as SLI Krait, SLI PLUS, .. etc...
And ASUS really need one 2-3 ROG X99 boards.
If you ask me they need and Rampage V Gene but they decide not.
mATX board could offer quad channel memory up to 64GB, place for dedicate sound card, 3x big PCI-E slots and M.2 connector with U.2 connector and 4-6 SATA III Ports.
With 40 lanes CPU she could hold SLI/CF, 950 PRO, Sound Card and maybe something in 3rd x8 PCI-E slot. M.2 could stay in vertical position if need same as on ASUS X99 board.
That's configuration as 95% of gamers use, only people like more bigger board and I like to see big E-ATX board. mATX have sense if you build small PC in small case.
Now if someone want board it's logic way Rampage Black, Rampage V Extreme is available for 250-300$ used and could be option
for people who can't afford expensive boards if customer didn't had problem. But it's very hard to find such people. Someone say first revision Rev. 1.xx is bad,
I think only first revision and exist. USB 3.1 version is same board with additional card, completely useless for 28 CPU because graphic work on x8.
With 28 CPU you have space for Graphic, M.2 NVMe and Sound Card, that's it. If you want full speed.

I think curretn gpus wont use much over 50% x16 bandwith so x8 also fine but future proofing is good.
Sorry if going ot.
Id say asus relase :
"X-99-pro-rog rampage 5.1 super-xtreme professional hyper-overclock"
Then change aisuite colors and put aisuite and bios backgrounds flashing bright colors fast ,put more leds on-board , add 100 or so dollar to price and relase:
"X-99-pro-rog quantum rampage 6.1 super-xtreme professional hyper-overclock ultimate edition"
Then chagne color to black + add some more echo effects in sound config and 500w worth of leds with special led power supply and relase:
"X-99-pro-rog quantum rampage 7.1 thunderbolt super-xtreme professional hyper-overclock black-series very-special-edition"
Audio chip could be called : "Super boom blaster power-hifi xtreme professional-studio-monitoring-quality gaming HD" and also fast flashing multi color leds on the chip is a must.
For audio chip dont make drivers , just put some soundcard ads in there.
But at least get custom led color config software running reliable, the audio driver bt wifi and other stuff does not matter who uses those anyway.

GPU to work on x8 because USB 3.1???
I mean GPU is for me more important than USB 3.0 not USB 3.1.
I would rather use USB 2.0 than my card to work on x8 speed.
I know difference is small but simply I doubt someone will even think to install USB 3.1 card and sacrifice full speed of GPU.
ASUS only should use Intel USB 3.1 than ASMedia, but it's really not big deal, performance are performance when USB 3.1 become available.

Sorry for double post, I looked and saved photos from ROG site for Rampage V Edition 10 and I was never so amazed with pictures of some motherboard.
Literally I looked and saved with smiley on face whole time.
I suggest you to look if someone don't have motherboard, all people need to see how high end motherboard should look.

Sure best use 28 lane cpu bandwith for gpu instead of 2x usb ports. (2x 16 = 32) .
Best use 40 lane cpu for future proofing sli when gpus go nearer to bandwith limits.
Since this board has tremendous ammount of usb ports anyway cant seeu much use for 3.1 .Idk if this asrock 3.1 card use x4 or x8.
Also not sure if 3.1 significantly faster and what devices developed to handle same speeds yet.Last edited by qwertz; 09-13-2016 at 04:47 AM.

Is it possible customer to disable LED on Rampage V Edition 10.
Example if someone want white LED in whole case and to show nice details on motherboard without LED?
LED Details are great but Board is so well build that LED distract in different direction. Even without heatsink you can recognize is killer.
