G74Sx: Is it safe to run with the lid closed?

Hi,

I'd hate to destroy my new laptop so a question...

Is it safe to run these G74sx laptops with the lid closed?
 It won't overheat or anything like that, will it?
I want to use it on my desktop with an external keyboard and monitor and haven't the room to keep it with the lid open. I've been running an older HP laptop for about 5 years like that continuous 24/7 without problems but they are different breeds of laptops.

I know this is late
But what I have been finding is that it will overheat and turn it's self off
I have fan under it and another one that blows through the lid to take away the extra heat
and the program
that I runs warms things up
