G752VS Overclocking Lowers Performance?

So, I just got my G752VS OC Edition and have been running some benchmarks. I have been getting some interesting results. It seems as if it's actually running faster without the overclocking. Here are my results.

(Updated with MSI GT73VR Benchmarks. Please note the MSI has a 1080, not the 1070 on the G752VS so this is not a direct 1:1 compairison. This is more of an update for my other post on the link below.)

G752VS is the one with 1070, right? Then I'm not too impressed. I squeezed out 9628 in Fire Strike with my G751JY, so considering the price differences I'm still quite happy I picked it up.

If theres anything that can be troublesome with my laptop it's CPU bound/bad optimized games, where the 4720HQ's Turbo Boost keeps performance quite limited. According to benchmarks, 6700HQ and 6820HK doesn't improve things much... Unless they suddenly magically managed to create a much better cooling system inside the machine...

With OC does it increase cpu voltage? Possible throttling? Would need to monitor core speed and temp during bench....

How's the temperatures compared to G751 / G752? If they're good, it makes me wonder what's the point of those giant Water cooling units which makes the laptops useless for travel.

When it OC mode, it was running close to max Heat on the chips. Fans were slightly louder, but not that much than my G751JY. The Unit is not really liquid cooled. It has some 3D vapor tech that uses these huge coolers.

To be fair the 10 Series runs much hotter than then 9 Series did, but it seems kinda ridiculous how big this laptop is.

Also. To be honest, the laptop does run very fast even on standard. But I wish the unit was smaller. It didn't even fit I'm my current bag.

I meant the separate giant water cooling units attached to the backs of the gx700 / g800 with desktop version GPUs which makes those laptops impossible to carry around, and basically turns them into really expensive desktops. I thought if an OC 1070 G752VS didn't need them, they're pointless. But since temps run high on yours, they're needed after all. I'm just glad they're not on the G752VS so it can still be carried around in a backpack.

It seems that If you are going to overclock a laptop having those huge watercoolers still seems necessary at the moment. Not doing OC it ran fine. I will be getting an MSI GT73VR with a 1080 once that come out on 9/5. They are using a new cooling tech themselves. Really it just seems like better fans with more pipes but we will see how that thing runs and know more about the temps.

I'm quite sure it's due to throttling...g752s cooling system is very quiet that my g752vt doesnt open fans till cpu/gpu reached 60C ... and i've never seen fans at full throttle.
Download notebook fan controller software and choose Asus Zenbook UX32LN, then you may able to adjust cpu and gpu fan speeds seperately...it works with g752vt...
before i start playing game, i manually set both fans at %100...cpu never exceeded 84C and gpu never exceeded 75C...

try that free software, run your fans @ %100 speed then run benchmarks again..

The problem is that the G752VS extreme mode sets the CPU to 1.4v, both on the 303 and 304 bios (304 slightly lower voltage)



With ASUS's bad thermal paste and blockage of direct airflow to fan, you will overheat very quick. Plus, if you're able to cool it with liquid nitrogen or something, the power limit of the G752VS 6820HK is 75w, 1.4v would make it instantly throttle.


I am running liquid metal thermal paste (Grizzly Conductonaut) and CPU temps don't go near 75c when overclocking to 4.1GHz -4.9mv [Adaptive mode, Default voltage]

1. Select and apply extreme mode in ASUS ROG gaming center
2. Open throttlestop, select FIVR
3. Check unlock voltage for core and cache/uncore, then select "reset" and "zero offset" a few times

This will make 6820HK run default voltage and not cause the overheat. You can then use the multiplier setting to overclock to 3.8ghz etc. I have mine stable 4.1GHz with 4.9mv undervolt.
