Bad ram or bad OC?

Hey

Trying to get my RipJawZ 2400MHz running 2400MHz while CPU run 4.6GHz. I manage to do 4.6GHz on cpu while RAM run 1866MHz, or 4.4GHz while RAM run 2133MHz. To get RAM running 2400MHz like on paper I probably have to go 4 GHz

This is my fall/winter clock on CPU usually. I did this before but have problems now doing same thing. Not having cooler mounted on RAM but airflow is really good in tower. You think my RAM is dying?

I run DRAM load line max, 140% and Extreme profile on thermals to try get it stable, no changes.

I might be shooting ducks with cannon but could VCCSA be too low for this? G.Skill recommended 1.2v

So I do some OC but compared to you guys I'm probably a newb, so please feed it to me with a spoon if you have to.

EDIT: Forgot to mention...
Rampage IV Formula
i7 4930k
G.Skill 16gb RipJawZ 2400mhz CL 10(?)
1200W PSU for all the power in the world lol

Is that ram on the qvl list for the rampage? If you think its dying you can test it with this program. Gskill has great cs when it comes to replacing ram.
you might want to try the gskill forums

It was at least a year or two ago when I bought it. I doubt that changed. Thanks, yes I'll try that. Asking on a G.Skill forum about OC and motherboard settings is maybe not right path to go even tho they made the RAM. A lot of Asus/ROG settings isnt same on other bioses/mobos.

I'm wondering about increasing volt in case memtest is ok. If someone think going above 1.2v VCCSA is smart(?), please speak up because I almost got no nerves 🙂 I doubt increasing DRAM voltage is any good or that more CPU voltage gonna help my case.

I wouldn't go over 1.2V vccsa...I wouldn't really want to go anywhere near 1.2v vccsa to be honest.

What exact RAM kit is it? Single quad channel kit?

Have you tried Tweak mode 2?

Ok, thats nice to know. Well, G.Skill made a howto get their ram 2400mhz on this board, and only way is to run ram 1.65v and VCCSA 1.2v.

After a bit of tweaking I managed to get ram running 2133mhz and cpu 4.5 GHz, still below 4.8 GHz/2400mhz from earlier. It might be the degrading of the RAM after all.

This is the 4x4 Gb 2400 MHz ripjawz kit to spread ram over more bandwidth.

As always, G.Skill have to give out figures that cover the great majority of kits so they give a catch-all figure.

I ran 2400 cas 9 on that platform at 1.075v vccsa...it all depends on memory controller of your particular chip...

You say the CPU used to run 4.8GHz and 2400 and now does not?

Any changes you can identify? BIOS updates...OS updates.

Maybe BIOS flashback latest BIOS again and maybe fresh install OS?

Maybe CPU is degraded....would be sad if so...sounds like it was a good one...

Yeah, true.

I managed to run CPU on lower volt before, but I think its some BIOS versions ago, not sure how many. I just used that 1.2v as guideline for my VCCSA like they said I should.

Yeah, I managed to get it stable on 4.8 GHz CPU 2400MHz RAM before. If there is something failing, I'm almost certain its the RAM. When PC became unstable sometime earlier I couldnt get it stable with lowering CPU 400 MHz from 4800MHz, I had to lower RAM from 2400MHz to 2133MHz just to keep CPU at 4.4 GHz. I don't know what turned CPU unstable at 4.8 GHz, it could be a BIOS version as you say.

Windows 10 is fresh installed 😕

Well, it was a "cheap" i7 CPU this, 4930k. Managed to get it stable on 4.8 GHz so it's very sad I cannot get back to that point now. Too bad I lack knowledge of more advanced OC and faultracking, that might save or saved the clock.

Still a very good CPU...might be worth flashing a few BIOS...see if rolling back helps any...

Yeah. In the end I may have to give in for that yes. Its a pain in the ass redoing the settings every time, bah..
