~edit~ Ok so I re-read your post a couple times and after you said "try this" it seems like you just explained what numbers are safe, but didn't actually give me any specific steps to try. Am I missing something?

Oh and you mention uping ram voltage, but my kit is rated to run at it's XMP speed with just 1.2v and it passed 36 hours of memtest with no errors running off just 1.2v so is it really a good idea to up the ram voltage for my particular set then?
Follow the tabs, also if your ram is set to 1.2v XMP and gives errors try manual 1.25v. Don't change anything else you see on my pictures other then what Nate152 or i asked you until the troubleshooting is done as most either aren't needed or might damage your hardware.

Yeah you could try those settings, just be aware with the cpu core/cache voltage set to manual only the cpu speed will throttle the voltage will not.

And this is ok? 1.2v when the cpu is down to 800mhz is safe?

Ok so I'm gonna let memtest run just a little longer just to be sure, but you guys have given me lots of information and things to try which I will be trying after I let memtest run a bit longer. If I don't reply again today, please don't think I flaked out on this thread because I will definitely be following up and trying most of these suggestions and then reporting back here what I tried and what my results were.

Thanks for all the help so far guys, much appreciated!

Yeah it's not a problem to let the cpu core/cache voltage at 1.20v - 1.25v, I usually let mine run full bore at 4.75GHz at idle. Adaptive mode is a power saving feature and will reduce idle temps even more by also throttling the voltage.

You'll have to see what idle temps are like, if you want them lower you can easily switch to adaptive mode.

And no hurry on an update, give us one anytime when you get a chance.

Ok guys so I'm doing this in real time here so as soon as I press submit on this post, I'm pressing start on Prime95.

    1) entered bios and on the exit tab i loaded optimized defaults then clicked save and exit
    2) allowed pc to reboot and then entered the bios again and then powered the system off
    3) switched power supply off, unplugged cord and then pressed power button a couple times to discharge
    4) pressed and held the clear cmos button for 10 seconds
    5) plugged cable back in, switched psu back on and then powered the system back on
    6) pressed del to enter the bios and was greeted with the screen prompting me to press f1 for 1st time setup which I did to enter the bios
    7) enabled XMP in the EZ mode of bios and then hit F7 to enter the advanced bios
    8) set cpu core/cache voltage to adaptive, Additional Turbo Mode to 1.20v and LLC to 4
    9) changed dram voltage to 1.2500, saved and exited to reboot
    10) upon entering windows I opened HWinfo64, coretemp and cpuz
    11) began prime95 set on blend with error and round off checking enabled

    Let's see what happens...

Max temp so far is 82c, is that too high?

I now realize this cooler may even be under powered just for stock speed, but for now, I can adjust the fan speed in the bios if need be and later get another fan for it so it has a push/pull config.

Honestly, if I don't end up doing any OC'ing, it's no big deal, but I at least want my system completely stable with safe temps. My criteria for whatever cpu and ram voltages and settings I choose is: Can pass 24 hour runs of memtest and prime with no errors while having temps at the very least below 80c on 100% load.
I realize those expectations are very light compared to most of you guys, but they would be ok with me. If anything, I'd prefer to get settings and a cooler that ensure no higher than low 70's, but first I just need to get this machine stable and then I can perhaps add the fan or just get a better cooler. I would need a cooler that is 160mm or less in height so any suggestions are welcome. For the record, I have tried all in one liquid coolers and the 2 Corsair ones I tried didn't impress me so I am fine with air coolers.

~Update~ temp hitting 85c so I'm gonna reboot, enter the bios and crank the fans up and then restart Prime95. I think I probably MUST get a better cooler for this cpu no matter what though, but I'll do this for now to continue testing and hope it will be enough so my cpu doesn't fry.

Oh and after stopping Prime to reboot so I could crank the fans, it had run for 9 minutes with no errors even though cpu temp hit max of 85c.

Did you run the qfan auto calibration in bios? Personally i never had to "crank the fans up" i just did that. I have i56600k @ 4.5ghz with evo 212 cooler and temperatures seem to stay around 70c under load. Same board as yours. Never ran that prime95 though just rog realbench.

Have not tried to calibrate them, but at this point it doesn't matter because it's become very apparent that the cpu cooler I chose simply isn't powerful enough for this cpu. I only ran Prime for an hour this time and it got no errors or warnings, but I stopped it because even with the fan speed set to turbo, the temp reached 84c. This temp happened with my AC on too so the ambient temp is pretty cool. Almost positive it isn't an issue with the cooler not being seated well because when I stop Prime, idle temp goes to 30 or even less very quickly and that is pretty much exactly what I would expect from this cooler.

I'm currently running ROG real bench stress for 15 minutes and will report the results shortly.

Thanks again to everyone who is replying and joining me on this journey.

    ~Update~

Ran the stress test for 15 minutes with ram set to 16gb and it passed saying: Result Hash Match! (x2)
    Max temp was 75c

    Should I run it longer?

    Gonna try the benchmarks now.

In my oppinion rog realbench is enough stress test you need. I always ran just 15mins also. I've read here it's the most "real life like" and tests all areas. And the temperature seems ok, some cores were about same with me too. They won't be as high real life use i think.
