Yeah I've heard people say ROG realbench is a great tool and it seems to be for sure. I do trust the results, but I still want my system to be capable of running Prime95 for 24 hours since I have always used that stress test and this cpu is the first 1 I ever saw get an error on it.
Basically it's like beating the crap out of the cpu so people use and trust it because if your system can run it for 24 hours and not get a single error, it can handle just about anything.

OK so I ordered a different cpu cooler and I think this 1 looks pretty awesome. http://www.cryorig.com/h5-universal.php

Sadly it will take anywhere from 4-8 days to get here ordered from Amazon, but that's fine.

I will update this thread again when I can, but my hopes are high and things are looking much better now! Big thank you to everyone, especially Nate!

~Edit~ Changed my mind at the last minute and decided this cooler seems to be a better performer. http://www.thermalright.com/html/pro...ho_direct.html

Their both ok if you only want a modest overclock (your original was decent enough). If you're using Prime 95 remember to use version 26.6 and use both SmallFFT at least 10m and Blend 2h, that should be more then sufficient for your needs (unless you do high level physics/fold/video encode all day long)

My original was not good enough by any means. At stock speeds and with fan speed at turbo, temps were going over 80c running Prime. This was in my AC cooled house even so yeah. Also it has MX4 thermal grease which is premium goo, but this cooler simply isn't good enough.

No disrespect to you and your opinion, but I can only base off what I am seeing having the setup right in front of me and what the results are. I am positive that I applied the right amount of grease, applied it correctly and thoroughly and that the cooler is properly seated, firmly fastened and completely flush with the cpu's lid.

This is looking good Loaded Glove !

You can lower the cpu core/cache voltage more until you get errors or a blue screen then bring it back up a notch.

If you're still at 1.25v try the cpu core/cache voltage at 1.20v, if it passes try it at 1.15.v. Finding the lowest stable voltage will give you the lowest temps.

Hmm, how do I do that? Not sure which of the settings I changed directly adjusts the voltage.

To recap, these are the settings I changed so which of these to lower it even more?

    7) enabled XMP in the EZ mode of bios and then hit F7 to enter the advanced bios
    8) set cpu core/cache voltage to adaptive, Additional Turbo Mode to 1.20v and LLC to 4
    9) changed dram voltage to 1.2500, saved and exited to reboot

I see you already tried 1.20v so give 1.15v a try and see how that goes.

On the extreme tweaker tab enter in the "Additional Turbo Mode" 1.15v then F10 and Enter to save and exit.

Does it still pass the test?

Because I increased the dram voltage, I wanted to run memtest again for some hours so I'll try to lower the core voltage in the morning and report my results to you.

I live in California and it is currently just after 3am so probably around 9am I'll do it. In the meantime, I gotta get some sleep. :P

Can't thank you enough for all the help though and you have definitely contributed some valuable knowledge to me that gives me a lot more confidence for any future tweaking and over clocking.

    All right sounds good !

The temperature is what controls how far you can overclock, the better your cooler the lower your temps and the further you can overclock. To be honest there isn't much of a performance gain in games overclocking the cpu, you get more of a performance gain overclocking the gpu.

I still overclock my cpu as far as temps will allow.

Give us an update at anytime.

How much would you say you gain in gaming if we compare default boost clock 3.9ghz of 6600k and overclock of 4.5? So 0.6 GHz overclock.

Well I will say it would depend on the game, in DOOM I gained maybe 1 FPS going from stock to 4.75GHz.

You would gain up to around 10 FPS overclocking the gpu.
