HERO: Residue on the back & question about water pump header
Hi all!
I recently got a MAXIMUS VIII HERO and noticed that there is A LOT of what I assume to be flux residue on the back of the mainboard. There isn't any on the front. Does anyone else's mainboard look like this? Is this normal? https://imgur.com/a/iOquF (Sorry for the potato quality pics)
About the water pump header: According to the manual, the pinout of the dedicated water pump header is different from all the other PWM headers. Is this an error in the manual?

Hi MikoMiko
Welcome to the ROG forum !
A little flux on the back is not uncommon, you can clean it off with some isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth such as a coffee filter.
As for the water pump header, it looks like it could be labled wrong, the water pump cable will only go on one way.

I tried to remove the flux residue (if it even is flux residue) with 100% isopropyl alcohol but it did not go away. However, the mainboard is now slightly cloudy/a lighter shade of black where I cleaned it with the alcohol. At first I thought it was a residue left by the isopropyl alcohol, but when I tried it on the already clean front, I didn't get any lighter spots, so I guess the alcohol did remove something from the back after all. But I can't get rid of the crusty spots in the pics.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, you won't see it once it's installed in your case.

So does that mean I could plug a fan into the water pump header? (I do not have an AIO)

Yep you can connect a fan to the water pump header, I have a fan connected to the water pump header on the maximus viii formula.
