5820K OC: rock stable only up to 12 threads

Hello guys I have an interesting behaviour on my System (CPU 5820K@4.5 GHz, RAM 2600 MHz 64GB in 8 banks, 100 strap).
Running 12 threads is definitely rock stable (running over 1000 hours without any problems).
But when there are more than 12 threads running (lets say 18 threads), some instabilities do occur (about 1 error per 25 hours of operation. Error can be bluescreen or program close).
So my question is what is likely the origin of the unstability? What differences in operation patterns chracterize the running of more threads than cores? Which screw should I tune to achieve 12+ threads stability?

Overclocking can cause instability...does this happen at stock CPU...stock ram...both? If not you will have the "screw" identified...
