Hi All,
I figured Id issue a challenge to us Asus enthusiasts. Microsoft just announced their "surface studio" an all in one computer with collapsable monitor (28" 4500x3000) that can be drawn on with their capacative stylus. Seeing that the cheapest of these is an i5 with 1tb drive (or i7 with 512 drive, microsoft has two different depictions of the same machine with different stats for the same price) with a m965 gtx graphics for 3000 USD, I was wondering if is there anything we could construct using parts that already exist with similar (or better) features for less?
So far for a "better build," with heavy rounding, what I got is:
$250 ~ Maximus Impact motherboard (This covers sound quality, bluetooth and wifi)
$250 ~ Intel i5 6600k
$175 ~ Asus 1050ti Strix OC (Guessing the price, the duo's going for 160)
$50-80 ~ Gold 80 Plus power supply that's on sale
$50-80 ~ Case that's on sale
$80 ~ 1tb Hybrid Hard drive
$60 ~ 8gb ram (one or two sticks)
$915-975 for the total so far.
Its the monitor that's a doozy. There's a few close ones but they're all 1080 and nothing comes close to that 28inch 3000x4500 (192dpi) screen that also has touch capacity. Sharp had a 5k with stylus going for 5000$ a few years ago. Which now looks to be adjusted to a 4k with touch the PN-K322bh (no idea what that price is but probably at least $1000.)
There are however a few 1080P monitors with stylus going for $300 (monoprice, refurbished) and an Asus one for $900 on amazon.
