    Opolar FTW

Alright. I'm all in on team Opolar. lol

My Opolar just arrived today and here are my results after a quick Aida64 test. Had Aida stressing both the CPU and GPU for 10 minutes.

I have mine on a cooling pad, with the CPU undervolted, and set to a 99% power plan. Laptop fan speed set to auto in both tests. Also laptop is closed because I use an external monitor when I'm at home, and the Opolar is mounted on the right side (in relation to the laptop facing you as normal).

    Without Opolar:
Fans ramped up to 4300 RPM.

    Conclusion:

    I'm sold.

    8c cooler on the CPU.
    6c cooler on the GPU.
    Fans running at 1200RPM lower.

Definitely ordering a second one next payday. XD

Which is better? The hole is 1mm, maybe I'll make it 2mm.
The one on the right looks hella good IMO. On first glance I probably wouldn't even notice that it wasn't stock.

    relief

Brand new to the PC gaming world and was sold on a GL702VM-DS74. At first glance I was inlove with the specs and design. It was soon after i really started using it that i realized this thing had a bad cooling problem. Cant tell you all how relieved i am to find out that i am not the only one and that there is some hope.

Speaking to another member (Thanks Starjack), I dont think the opolar would be a good suit for me (i want to be able to open past the 90* point). I was curious about others experiences with cooling pads. Currently looking at the CM U3 Plus so that i can position the fans accordingly. Thanks again.

    Aluminium Tape Does Work!

Just want to let everyone know that my laptop went from 80+ degrees celcius while gaming World of Warcraft to around 60-65 with Aluminum Tape and the Notebook cooling program.

-100 mV on CPU and number 3 on MSI Afterburner. I do plan to drill holes in the future. I am just not "there" yet. I am kinda afraid something else is going to go wrong, so I kind of want my warranty a bit longer.

I hear that, Bran. My Opolars are definitely the thing that reassures me the most. I will generally leave both on setting 2 now which has my GL702VM idling at 32C with my fans at 1800 RPM (only a web browser open). If I set them to auto it'll idle at around 36/37C. Prior to firing up a resource intensive game I will set them to 10 or 11 and for what I'm playing I really don't see temps beyond 72C. Most of the games I play in fact stay below 65C. With two LC06s you will also notice your system is able to drop temps quite fast after playing a game. They just suck all that hot air right out.

Good morning all, I just thought I would post a link to a BIOS update for the GL702VM. This update is specifically for the thermals related to the CPU. I'm going to install this and hopefully I will see a noticeable improvement. Maybe ASUS has paid attention to this thread.

Note: The update was released on 5/24/2017, so it's very recent.

My Laptop reports as a GL702VMK within ROG Gaming Center. The update you reference seems to be available only for the GL702VM model.

I'd like to know the difference between the two models. I wonder if the K is for the Kaby Lake refresh, which I have. Maybe that thermal update is for last year's Skylake model. Anybody from ASUS able to shed some light on this?

Here's some of my system information - you can get this by running a command shell and typing SYSTEMINFO. Maybe someone with the Skylake model could run systeminfo and let me know if theirs is a VM or a VMK.
