    3501 bios!

    Hi guys,

So I have been having random reboot problems for quite a while now, PC would just randomly cut out and restart by itself, no matter what load it was under or what I was doing on it, it was completely random when it would happen. I have a 5820k processor, all of the 3*** series bios's would not fix the issue, also I've been told that 5*** series processors run terrible on 3*** series bios's.

I tried 0044 for a while and had a few unrelated problems elsewhere with this BETA bios, so I reverted back to the 2101 bios after reading people's experiences with this issue, which I've found to be incredibly solid. I've been running the machine for two weeks and haven't had a single reboot, everything is the way it should be. However I decided to test out the the 3501 to see if the problem would be fixed and while getting the added benefits of having the latest 3*** bios. So far so good, the boot times are noticebly faster and everything is running the way it should. I mean it's been a few hours and seems to be running solid without any restarts. If I find issued down the line I will update you guys.

So in short and from my experience over the past few months:

If you have Intel 5*** series processor and random reboot issues USE 2101.

Or update to 3501 (Latest), it seems pretty solid and noticebly faster boot times, will update as I test over the coming days.

Or if 2101 isn't an option for you try 0044 BETA.

If you have any issues or questions please post below, I'll try to help. Thanks!

    psowson,
When overclocking using the OC Panel some voltages will need increased when increasing the multiplier or blck, at minimum vcore will need increased
An immediate shutdown or reboot is normal when either overclocking to far or not increasing voltage enough for the frequency increase
I have used the OC Panel on bios 3404 without issue except when I try to go to far

By the way, as a point of reference, back when I was on 2101 running my memory at XMP settings 2666 Mhz, I was getting reads of around 58k. Still running at XMP and getting 63.5 reads now. So from 2101 to 3501 increased from 58k to 63.5k - almost 10% improvement. That's pretty significant in my book, and might even be a bit better than I was getting by overclocking my memory to 3000 Mhz on 2101 back then (which never proved to be entirely stable either, while it's rock solid stable now). And since I never had the restart problems, I've been thrilled with every BIOS since 3101.

Also, I just put my CPU and cache back to their old 4.4 CPU, 4.2 cache settings (for the last few months, I've been doing 4.2 and 4.0). It occurred to me that I had stopped O/Cing my video cards at the same time, and that may have been sufficient to get me as rock solid stable as I have been these last few months (seriously, I haven't crashed once since like September). With my full CPU/cache overclock back, I'm up to over 65k reads with this BIOS again.

Come to think of it, when I was getting 58k reads on 2101, that was with my full overclock. So the improvement really may be 58k to 65k - more like 12-13%. Niiice.

Seems to mess with my OC settings

I've had to raise my adaptive voltage for my 5960x to 1.50 base from 1.3. Hopefuly this will stabilize. I've removed my small RAM OC because of memory blue screens.

1.5 is WAY too high, you know that right? *1.35 would be the absolute highest I'd do, and not for long.

No random restarts yet but temp is running about 38C, 2101 normal would be 30C.

Just installed 3501 and now the system won't boot. It hangs at Code 95 every time.

I can get past the Code 95 if I enable the slow mode jumper /switch (LN2), which allows me to boot into the bios, but no matter what settings I try to save while in Slow Mode I can't seem to get past the Code 95 when I get out of slow mode.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Previous bios was 2101.
