Is there anymore info on the new GL502 that was just announced at CES 2017? Did Asus fixed the power supply and now offer a 230w power supply? Does it have a thunderbolt 3 port?

Power supply seems to be the same. http://www.hidevolution.com/asus-gl502vs-ds71.html

Basic 1699$ model (Asus GL502VS-DS71) still has the same 1TB HDD, though SSD is now only 128 GB instead of 256. Compared to the older GL502VS monitor has 120 Hz instead of 60 Hz (useful for some gamers), RAM speed (stil DDR 4) is now 2400Mhz instead od 2133Mhz (really a small difference). Inside is the new Kaby Lake i7 7700 HQ (again it will make only a minor difference in games). And there is an additional color option (silver). Apparently still no thunderbolt 3 included. There will of course be different options around the world hardware wise.

I would say, that if you find a good price for the Skylake version, definitely go for it. The difference in games will be only very minor (I would even say not really noticeable). But also look for the possible competition (MSI, HP...).

In the specificafions of the link passed by Jabarkas have a 230W power supply, please take a look
https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/ROG-GL502VS-7th-Gen-Intel-Core/specifications/

Those specs still belong to the Skylake version. See the processor.

The 6th generation has a 180W, the site said about the 7th. That appears at the top of the screen the message "ROG GL502VS (7th Gen Intel Core)"

I do understand, that the site is (or at least should be) about the new version (that is why I posted it). But specs like processor are not right (still skylake). So even though the 240 W charger is there (good eye btw, I did not see that), I would still wait for a confirmation.

But It would be good news, wouldnt it? 🙂 Can really Asus admit, that their 180W charger was not able to sustain the notebook during heavy gaming? 🙂

Skylake i7-6700HQ has rated max TDP of 45W. Highest rated TDP on mobile Kaby Lake i7 processors is also 45W. Official GL502 specs may be right or wrong, but upgrading to Kaby Lake processor doesn't in itself require upgrading PSU wattage.

180W PSU on GL502 was adequate for Skylake running a 100W 8GB GTX980M. So it should be adequate for Skylake (or Kaby Lake) running a 80W 6GB GTX1060, it might be (barely) adequate for running a 110W 8GB GTX1070, and completely inadequate for running a 150W 8GB GTX1080. The GPU won't require peak power at 1080 so it's not even an issue on GL502 models with FHD 1920x1080 displays or HDMI output - but power can be an issue on GL502 models with UHD 3840x2160, or on mini-DP output to high resolution displays.

Fully decked out GL502 laptops consistently offer a middly chipset along with the fastest CPU, GPU, and RAM parts that could be plugged into it - although the majority of GL502 models/variants are sold with somewhat lesser hardware configurations. ASUS might choose to provide a 180W PSU or a 230W PSU as needed with the hardware for each GL502, I suspect that at least the higher-end GL502s (which need it) will come with the higher-end 230W PSU.

Remember that the GL502 is a "lightweight" "value" gaming laptop. Individual parts can be upgraded through a variety of non-ASUS vendors. Compatible ASUS (and non-ASUS) PSUs can be purchased separately, 90W, 180W, 230W, and more (although I wouldn't exceed 230W unless I knew the GL502's internal power circuitry could handle >12A). (While you're at it, make sure you've got 16GB to 32GB 1.20V DDR4 and replace the HDD/SSHD with a proper SSD, lol - more battery life, more PSU power for GPU, less clunky weight.)

Does anyone know when it's going to be available to buy?

All the new models are on Amazon right now and can be had by Tuesday if you do 1 day shipping(US). Go to Asus page on Amazon and sort by new arrivals.

I don't see the kabylake version of the GL502VS on Amazon USA, I only see the old skylake version 😕
