G551JW - connecting external monitor changes laptop display

Hi,
i have a problem with my ROG G551JW. If i connect an external monitor and use the "Extend" option in Windows then the image on my first screen (laptop screen) changes. It gets very contrasty and bright. As soon as i disconnect the external screen, laptop screen becomes normal again.

If i select "Duplicate" for the alternative screen then it behaves well.

What could cause this issue? Tried with DP and HDMI.

ASUS ROG G551JW, Windows 10

Thanks!

Hello thebroker
Can you provide a comparison photo showing this matter?
Also, what's your screen setup? resolution? refresh rate?
Does the setups changes when you select "Duplicate" ?
Thank you

Hi!
the shift in screen colours depends on the currently selected monitor ICC colour profiles. I have the following setup:
ASUS ROG G551JW, Windows 10 with native resolution 60Hz, LP156WF4_SPH1 panel
External monitor Dell UP2716D - WQHD (2560 x 1440), 60Hz, tried with HDMI & DP

The external monitors resolution does change when i change to "Duplicate" mode.

Could you please answer the following:
1) Which video card are the HDMI/DP ports connected to? Intel HD4600 or Nvidia 9600M GT?
2) I seem to be able to set two DIFFERENT colour profiles when in "Extended" mode. I assume there is one LUT for Intel and one for Nvidia card? Or are there more LUT's per video card? So, the external monitor is using Nvidia card?
3) If i select "Duplicate" then the ICC profile on the external monitor gets messed up. I assume that both monitors switch to the same LUT? Which one (Intel or Nvidia)?
4) If is select "Second screen only" then the ICC profile on my external monitor gets messed up. Does that mean that in this mode the external monitor switches to the Intel video card LUT?

I would really appreciate answers to those questions as this is driving me mad.

Thanks in advance!
