I know people can't go in depth with them but will there be availability on day 1? I want a ROG board but I'm not going to be waiting around for it.

ASUS obviously can't launch AM4 until AMD launches AM4. But it appears ASUS already has a range of AM4 mobo offerings.

Engineering samples are usually sent to "elite" (Enterprise/Datacenter) customers the moment the first batches of silicon cool off. A big hint that production has started.
Media samples and "leaks" are usually sent to reviewers a couple months before official product launch. AMD's already feeding the hype and buzz about AM4 so I think it'll launch before Q2/2018.

Zen launches in 16 days

Then I think you'll only have to wait 16 days to buy a ROG AM4 motherboard, lol. It might already be sitting in somebody's warehouse, just waiting for AMD's official launch approval.

Planning/hoping to get an ASUS AM4 board, however I need one with at least two PCI-E 16x slots, one PCI-E x4 slot (or a third x16 slot) and at least one U.2 port. Has anyone seen anything meeting the desired spec yet? I have been looking at leaks but so far nothing 😞

Have not seen any like that

I'd like to deploy my troops in her country.

Hmm, the crosshair looks okay for the PCI-E support, no U.2 ports though, but I supposed I could add one via a M.2 to U.2 adaptor. May just wait until a board with U.2 arrives though, hopefully an AM4 sabertooth would have some.

Now if only AMD could put out something equivalent to an Intel HEDT: lotsa cores with good SMT, quad-channel memory bandwidth, enough PCIe to actually run x16/x16 or better, etc. Opteron just doesn't cut it, lol, and Intel's X99/X299 is so stupidly overpriced. 😛

I wouldn't be too surprised by lack of U.2 support - M.2 form factor is where the consumer focus (or at least where the manufacturers think the consumer focus should be) these days. There's currently a great variety of consumer M.2 storage options and there's currently no "awesome" consumer products which leverage U.2's primary advantages over M.2 (namely: Bluetooth, WiFi, and WLAN capabilities). ASUS might provide out-of-the-box U.2 compatibility because they usually tend to maximize generic hardware compatibility instead of specific hardware qualities ... and you could always buy an ASUS Hyper Kit or other adapter (assuming it isn't bundled in with all the other ASUS mobo accessories).
