What does this data spec mean? (ROG Crosshair VI Hero)
My general question is if I could use a single graphics card in that second X16 slot and still get full speed.
My specific question is, what does the spec below mean?
(From: https://rog.asus.com/articles/coming...4-motherboard/ )
Does it simply mean, that any single graphics card MUST be inserted into the top x16 socket?!?
I am also curious if the ROG Crosshair VI Hero supports the Nofan CR-95C passive cooler. I know this board also has AM3 holes in addition to AM4, but I have no idea if that heatsink will fit onto the board.Last edited by Decoman; 02-27-2017 at 10:50 AM.

Hello
The second PCIe x16 slot will be x8 even if the first slot is not used. The board is compatible with both AM3 and AM4 cooler mounting.

Aw shucks. Thank you!
<- wonder's why that second slot is a x16 slot if any graphics card cannot get x16 "power" from it.

You're welcome. The slot description of x16 is a physical designation not electrical.

Hm. I guess most graphics cards run the same, whether with x8 or x16 "power". *shrugs*
