Best 250 GB M.2 for this?

Xwolfe84

Looking to purchase a M.2 ~250 GB ssd for my Win 10 Pro installation, preferably in the 100 - 150$ range.

This is my first build with a Mobo that has native M.2 so its sorta new territory for me. Looking for some recomendations on what the best and most reliable model would be in general for that price range. Or if anyone is running Win 10 Pro on a certain model 250gb M.2 drive already , and youve had no issue with it ( bios compatibility or hiccups), id appreciate the input!

Thanks in advance! 😄

Hi Xwolfe84

What motherboard do you have?

Some are sata M.2, some are pcie M.2 and some new motherboards support both.

I'm personally running Samsung SM961 - OEM version of their EVO / PRO series. As it's OEM you only get 1 year warranty but it's a lot cheaper. Probably the best bang for your buck at the moment, it's NVME too and can get reads/writes around 3.5GB/s/1.5GB/s.

Lol, sorry, im new to these forums. I thought this section was specifically for the Crosshair VI Hero?

Current Build is:
Crosshair VI Hero X370, updated to the 0902 BIOS.
Ryzen 1800X
HyperX Savage 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) HX430C15SB2K4/16 (to be replaced with G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) F4-3600C16D-16GTZR after reading threads here and seeing reccomendations on 2 Versus 4 sticks Ram compatibility)
EVGA Supernova 80+ Gold 1000w
CoolerMaster MasterLiquid 120 CPU cooler
Seagate BarraCuda ST3000DM008 3TB
MSI GTX 760 as a placeholder (ill install my MSI GTX 1070 6 gb once i get Windows loaded and the system appears to be running stable)

I have everything assembled , but have been reluctant to mess around with it too much seeing all the issues that have arisen. Ive booted up and messed around and looked at the Bios a bit but thats all. This will be my first WIn 10 build so im being patient and doing my best not to mess around too much atm and brick the board and fry anything in my noobicity.

Yeah it's for C6H motherboard, still relevant thread. The SSD I mentioned is probably best bang for buck, no issues with it on my C6H (crosshair VI hero) build.

Thank you

Your motherboard supports both sata M.2 and pcie M.2

The pcie x4 M.2 NVMe drives are the fastest ones.

Samsung 960 EVO 250GB

Samsung 960 pro - this is the fastest and comes in 512GB, 1024GB and 2048GB.

The 960 Pro series, which would be nice to have, is way above my budget at this time (which ive gone over by a bit already lol)

Since you both recommended the 960 Evo and pankomputerek even states he is currently using that on his CH6 with no problems, i think ill go with that one.

Thanks to both of you for your time.

I put this into my latest build:

Plextor M8Pe M.2 2280 256GB NVMe PCI-Express

Very happy with it so far.

I was wondering if you were able to get your Plextor to work in NVMe mode? I have the 1TB version and can only seem to get it to work in AHCI mode with SATA type speeds.
