Help and Worries upgrading G20 to a 1080 and i7-6700k

So I know this has been said 100 times in other threads. But still I wanted complete confirmation before I went out and spent a lot of money. I want to upgrade my G20 (750, i5 4460, 8gb Ram) to a 1080 and a i7-6700k. I know I have to get the secondary 180w pw supply but even with the two supplies in should the wattage be enough to handle both the gpu and the cpu with no problems? Also will they fit in the machine?.

Welcome to the ROG forum.

the i5-4460 is socket 1150, the i7 6700k is socket 1151 so nope it won't work.

As for the 1080 it peaks at 180w so you're right on the edge, I personally don't like to live on the edge with power. You might want to get the 230w psu to give you some headroom.

Or just build you a nice desktop with a new ROG z270 motherboard and 7700k. 🙂

The 180w PSU is running the entire PC so he definitely needs the secondary PSU with any upgrade.

@Aubinox123 - The fastest CPU for that generation machine is the 4790. If you want anything newer then Nate is correct that you'd have to build a new machine.

Thank you! I already have the 230w I forgot to mention that in the post so I'm getting the 180w to get the full 410w, thank you for the i7 warning ill be sure to get a 4790k instead.

Get a regular (non-k) model, K marker indicates unlocked, you don't need that (and can't utilize it either) unless for some reason you find that cheaper, which should be the opposite (regular should be cheaper)

I originally thought they would be the same as well but the K version actually has a higher clock speed.

yeah as said above, the max is the i7 4790k LGA1150 & the 180watt power brick, if you want the gtx 1080ti then your need a 230watt power brick+

worth upgrading to 16gb of ddr3 memory while your in the cpu area, as the cpu cooler has to be taken off to access the cpu
