Seeing how most B350/X370 boards can be crossflashed to their B450/X470 equivalent (possible with Gigabyte, Asrock boards, one or two ASUS boards) and have them work just fine, some people have been experimenting with flashing other brands' B450/X470 ComboPI v2 BIOSes on the C6H. Bold and insane, yes. Surprisingly, some work, mostly.

This is what the community over at OCN has come up with so far:

ASrock bioses have no Re-size BAR support, Gigabyte bioses have no POST (even it was reported semi-working before), Biostar Bioses support Re-size BAR and it works, but they have nasty Cold boot bug except X470 GT8. It boots great from cold start, re-size BAR works, Fan works weird for this rom. Windows apps like Fancontrol or Argus Monitor can adjust speeds but fan speed values works opposite. 0% on app makes 100% for fan, %50 and %50+ on app makes 0% for fan. This X470 GT8 bios has a weird bug. PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot works at 3.0 8x. This is the only bios that does PCI-Express speed lowering to half.
Yeah, the board BOOTS AND RUNS other brands' BIOSes with the newer AGESA branch just fine too, the Biostar X470 GT8's BIOS resulting in the least bugged situation. (PCIe x16 limited to x8, fan control through software in Windows, unreliable sensor readings, and losing ASUS' BIOS interface for Biostar's horrible one, but we get 5000 series and SAM support).

Gigabyte BIOSes are or were promising, but they're currently bugged in the intended hardware, or they stopped working at some point as stated by Residentour.

For some reason the C6H won't POST with ASUS' own B450/X470 16MB ComboPI v2 BIOSes, so we can't try these out. We'll have to figure this one out.

There was also the idea of changing the BIOS chip to a 32MB one, but some modding has to be done (3.3v -> 1.8v, etc)

Some progress is being made. Zentimings developer infraredbg has been trying out BIOSes as he has a C6H and a CH341a programmer, csf22able too. Let these guys keep doing the research and trying out candidate BIOSes for the time being.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, let's say the board doesn't ever get an as-is ComboPI V2 BIOS like Asrock did for their 300 series boards.

7901 still has some nasty bugs that were also present in all other releases.

    • if fclk > 1800MHz, when waking up from sleep it gets reset back to 1800MHz or it gets reset to half real memory speed. Performance loss.
    • vDDG, vDDP get reset to 0.95v on wake up from sleep, resulting in instability if your particular CPU needs more voltage for either
    • fan control is still wonky

Funny enough, the fclk reset on resume from sleep bug was also present in the C7H, shamino fixed it and provided a test BIOS before the ComboPI V2 BIOSes. Nope, that fix never got back to us despite the C6H and C7H sharing the same bugs and software stack for most of their parallel lives.

It would be a shame to end up on broken 7901 forever. We could use that fix and getting the remaining bugs fixed. It's not too much to ask of a flagship board.

    Unbelievable..
And what's even more incredible is that there are cheaper Motherboards from other manufacturers wich specifically supports ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000 on the same chipset!
Like this one, read its description https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard...-S2H-rev-10#kf
Instead we are even left with the impossibility to make the pc sleep without losing my stable overclock (I need 1.05 vddg and 1.0 Vddp)

    https://de.msi.com/Motherboard/B450M-PRO-VDH-V2.html

This Board has 1 LESS VRM and works well with a RYzen 5 2600 (never any problems just 4x RAMS wont work)

But Resize BAr and 5900X support ... Sad a cheapo 60€¬ Board can yet a 300€¬ top C6H cant....

Its not exactly that it dont work does it ASUS!

I would really encourage Asus to make support for Zen3 on CH6 series - even unofficial/beta, since AMD officially doesn't want to support - shame on AMD.

It is well known there are no technical reasons that X470 could support but X370 chipset could not support Zen3, so please Asus don't let your enthusiasts be disappointed!

all zen's supported with a small 16mb bios file =)

btw, b450 are really great mobo's nowadays, just like C6H, but vendor support is valid, even b550 have limited CPU's support (old zen's are not supported)

If Asus doesn't fix the 7901 BIOS for the Crosshair VI boards and add support for Zen 3, then I won't be buying another Asus board ever again. I spent like at least $350 on my Crosshair VI Extreme. Asus is supposed to be the best board maker yet they are not adding Zen 3 support to their flagship X370 boards which are only a few years old. Other cheaper budget board makers are starting to add Zen 3 support to their older boards. But Asus with hundreds of billions of dollars just makes excuses? It's inexcusable.

I don't think you necessarily need to shift the voltages to 1.8v. A 32MB 3.3v chip would probably be fine. I think this one would work: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/...6JVEIQ/6810681

WSON instead of SOIC, but the pin spacing and order is the same, so should be feasible to solder to the same spot.

Whether the board would still boot properly with a 32MB ROM with a 16MB bios flashed to it, I don't know. And who knows if bios flashback would still work.

    Low voltage PLL 1.8V?

Hi all. A doubt. In the suite I see the 1.8V PLL Voltage a red at 1V. This is normal? In the Bios it is in auto mode. What is it for? Should I set it to manual at 1.8?

Update: BIOS 7901 fixed the problem. Thanks
