You can get fans/heatsinks and everything else here

Oh that's right! Have you tried re enabling tb?

Thanks for the link, I was hoping it was 3rd party fans not oem.

I wish the stock heat sink wasn't linked to both the cpu and gpu.. would be nice to have a fan/pipes for each. The gpu heats up and Jacks up the cpu temp even if the cpu is running at 23% util.

I know right, i did this long ago, stress test just the gpu and watch the cpu temp going up like crazy....

That's some sexy tape you got there, did you also alter the fan speeds? Try furmark+ prime 95 for 10-15 minutes, monitor the max temps, also watch for the fan speed.

Haha, thanks! i did not alter the fan speeds... i can give the furmark and prime a shot, i thought i read somewhere that those to apps arn't really a good test as it puts WAY more stress on the cpu and gpu than is necessary.

Has anyone else tried this yet and had good results? With turbo boost turned on? i.e. Performance at 100%

With tape and undervolt and fan speeds at 100% , the first few minutes temps seem ok, later on they get higher. and finally after 1 hour of intense stresstest my cpu temp stil hit 90s. I think the fans just can't keep up with all the heat - talking about long periods of 1h+ . When gaming temps are in their mid 80s.

that;s with tubo boost, if disabled i get max temps of high 70s on cpu. but there's performance decrease as well

I also applied the tape. Without external fan, undervolting and running Heaven benchmark for an hour it settles around 70°C GPU and 80°C on the CPU with short spikes to 83°C. It will probably go a little bit higher in summer? What is a safe temperature for the CPU? I remember the times when you were supposed to not let it hit 60°C.

I applied some foil tape to the gaps on my GL702VM As you suggested, I'll see what the temps are like and report back!

Yeah max temps have risen quite a bit over the years, and mobile chips have even higher thresholds.

According to the 7700hq's ark page the max temp is 100C. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but I think generally speaking anything under 90 is considered 'okay'. Obviously lower is better, and will help with longevity. But you don't need to worry about frying the damn thing in the 80's.

Heck even this monstrosity hangs out in the mid 80's under load. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsQbjSIrSmA

I mean it has a lot beefier hardware in it, but it also weights 13 pounds, and has a much more robust cooling system. lol
