I need a little guidance. I'm about to install my i7 7700k into my new Maximus IX Code. There is an installation tool for the CPU. I don't understand, but it appears that you leave the tool on the CPU after you install it. It doesn't make sense, but everything looks like that is the case. Can someone help me out on this?

I would recommend NOT using the cpu installation tool, I personally don't use it. Just be gentle placing it in the socket and all will be good.

I'll probably take your advice, but if I use it, does it really stay on?? That seems strange.

I believe it does stay on if you use it.

Again, that's weird, so I don't want it; however, I'm concerned that not using it would void the warranty. Thoughts???

No it won't void the warranty by not using the tool, as I said just be gentle placing it in the socket. If you bend any cpu socket pins that will void the warranty.
You have installed a cpu before ?

Only about 8 builds and I bent pins once. Not fun at all. My problem is that I'm not 35 anymore, more like 65, and the myriad of choices available. As I said, I did my first from scratch build in 1988. Here we are almost 30 years later and what we have available is amazing. I just bought a 4 Tb hard drive and, looking back, my first build was with a 32mb hard drive that cost me north of $600. Times they are achanging. As a retired lawyer & judge, I worry about loopholes in the warranty. You guys have been great. You asked me about my system & here it is:
Intel Core i7-7700k

Yeah you have enough experience to not need the tool, just install the cpu like you would any other. Make sure the cpu is in the right orientation then gently place it in the socket and close the latch.
It's ok to be cautious but don't be afraid.
