I'm trying to decide whether to buy the Code or the Hero. It's a difference of about $75. on Amazon. The stuff I read said the Hero's SATA ports would only support the data drives (HDD or SDD) not ATAPI (CD, DVD or Blu-Ray) drives, but that doesn't match your experience. I'll take your experience over the other stuff any time. My Gigabyte Z77 board appears to have died after flashing the bios from the F8 to F14. This gives me a good reason to change. Looking at either the Hero or the Code with i7 7700, ROG STRIX 1070, Corsair memory 16-32gb (yet to be determined). Any suggestions would be appreciated. The $75 difference is not that significant. I can hold off on 32gb & go with 16gb for now. Thanks in advance.

Yeah just get a sata dvd drive like I posted, it will work I promise.

If you want 32GB get it now, don't combine memory kits, you might get lucky and it will work but then it could give you problems or not work at all. It's not worth taking the chance on combining memory kits even of the same specs.

Have you checked out the G.Skill Trident Z ram ?

    It's more money than what I was looking at: Corsair Vengeance LED 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3000 (PC4-24000)

All right, yeah that's a nice kit with RGB lighting too. I see a reviewer on Newegg saying only one stick works with Aura but that was back in november so I'm sure it's been addressed by now.

G.Skill's is about 40.00 more for their RGB ram so if you like the Cosrsair Vengeance go for it.

What cpu and cooler are you getting ?

i7 7700 with the Cooler Master 212. The cooler is from my old setup so if you think that's not good enough, please let me know. I'm also planning on re-using my Cooler Master HAF case with its 850 watt silent pro psu. I am not planning any serious attempts at OC. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd actually recommend the i7-7700k even though you won't be overclocking, out of the box it's clocked 300MHz higher than the i7-7700 and is only about $40.00 more, it will likely have a stronger Integrated Memory Controller too. You can always try your hand at overclocking later on if you decide to, you'll certainly have a motherboard that's capable. You'd need a new cpu cooler and a decent one is around $100.00 give or take.

Go with the Maximus IX Hero and i7-7700k ?
