You should all know that the SMART disabling solution is recommended officially on Asus support page, FAQ section, starting with Dec. 21, 2017. See it here:

    https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1034929

Of course nobody from Asus Support bothered to update this thread that the workaround really works.
Thank you poptaz3r for your help!

Yup! No problem entering safe mode with SMART enabled.

    Excuses for double posting.

    How about "restart option"?
I enabled my SMART and can't do restart option. Always got stucked.

    UPDATE:
I was able to do "restart option" now without any error with SMART enabled.
I don't know what happened. LOL
All I can remember is that I encounter that restart error after I press "Esc" while booting and select to bood on my SSD after enabling SMART.
Then, I disable SMART and was able to do restart again.
After that, I just tried to the same process again (press "Esc" while booting and select to boot on my SSD) but with SMART disable this time.
Enable SMART again, select restart and boila. All goes well without errors.
As I said I don't know what happened, I'm still newbie in this kind of things. So that was it. Just sharing my expeerience. LOL
This laptop is driving me crazy. Peace. (",v

Follow the below given steps carefully to resolve Windows 10 creators update failure issue:

    1. Open thee run dialogue box by pressing the Windows Logo key + R
    2. In the run box type services.msc and hit Enter key.
    3. This will launch the Services Manager.
    4. Scroll down the list to find the Windows Update service, right-click on it and click on Stop.
    5. Restart your computer, now wait for the computer to start.
    6. After booting your PC or laptop, open the Start Menu and click on Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check for updates.

Your system should now check for updates, find the build 1703 update and start downloading and installing it without any issues.

MS Chat support and Asus Support were both useless. All boils down to SMART in BIOS. This is not acceptable support for 2018. I had originally gotten the update once it came out but it wouldn't install. So frustrating to realize after all this time that the solution was so simple yet not a single pertinent reply from both company tech support.
im still stuck though. ASUS GL502VT 1607 home 2034 build. tried all recommendations. after it says "Preparing Updates. 21%, goes back to "restoring previous version of windows"

Try restoring your BIOS setting to default then disable SMART then update.

    Unhappy

Why is it necessary to work around windows update? Every time my computer starts up it redownloads the update insists on restarting and then locks up which means a hard shut down recover last installed windows and the cycle continues. I called asus a week ago and was told someone would call me back within 24 hours and have heard nothing. This has been going on for months. Frustrated.
