I thought you couldn't use M.2 in Impact VIII?

When looking at latest bios for the Impact VIII

I noticed it mentioned M.2.. can someone explain?

- Improved keyboard compatibility when “Fast Boot” enabled.
- Fixed DRAM frequency read display error in OS.
- Improved DRAM XMP compatibility over 4200MHz.
- Fixed Plextor M.2 device issue.
- Modified OA key function in legacy OS.

SFF-8643, 8639 and M.2. are electrically compatible. Is that surprising?

what adapter did you use then? just curious now.. u.2 to m.2? do you have a picture of rig

the guy above you is mentioning the m.2 which is for the wifi can be used for a m.2 storage.. is that true?

Not sure if offsite referrals are allowed. They're from microsata cables in MA. YMMV though but they worked out-of-the-box with some initial BIOS secure boot / UEFI related quirks that had to be remedied by removing existing drives.

SFF-992-20CM SFF-8643 to U.2 SFF-8639 with 15 Pin SATA Power Connector* 1
CASE-994-U2 U.2 SFF-8639 to M.2 PCIe I/F with 2.5 Inch 9.5mm Case 1

Was an old pre-seated snapshot of the mounting from the PC.
The tl;dr: SFF-8643 to 8639 cable + SFF-8639 to M.2 PCB.

That's all I can share, ain't doing tech support but hope the info was useful.

Thanks.. I never knew such a thing existed.. well it didn't when this board was released that was when I had this board.. my intel 750 u.2 is amazing for now but its great to know I have options.. my main confusion was if the wifi m.2 slot could be used for storage but I guess it can't... thanks anything for the input

Although the Maximus VIII Impact doesn't have a M.2 header, you can use a M.2 PCIe to PCIe 3.0 adapter. Also Plextor offers HHHL versions of their PCIe SSDs. 🙂

I have a U.2 intel Nvme drive... but when I searched when I first got this board everyone said the M.2 which was for the Wifi / Bluetooth was not compatible..
& at the time there was no U.2 to m.2 converter

why would you get m.2 to 3.0 adapter when there is only 1 pcie 3.0 slot which is for the GPU

Probably because you are only thinking of the x16 slot, not the M.2 interface that is running the bluetooth/wireless adapter.
