ASUS Rampage III Extreme memory question

Retired
Not applicable
Hi,

I downloaded the Qualified Vendor list for memory and I want to make sure I understand it correctly.

At speeds above DDR3 1600 only memory sizes of a maximum of 6 GB are listed. Does this mean I can't have more than 6GB of memory in my system if I choose to go above DDR3 1600?

Or can I for example take the:
KINGSTON KHX2000C9D3T1K3/6GX(XMP) 6GB(3 x 2GB) DS - - 9 1.65 ● ● ● ●

which has check boxes in the 2,3,4 & 6 DIMM columns to mean that I can have 6 of these sticks for a total of 12GB of memory???

thank you in advance for your help,
Zareh

Zareh,

it is possible to use more than 6GB of DRAM operating at 1600MHz, however it is not fully supported by Intel specifications as it exceeds the qualified design of 1333MHz

Check out corsair CMP24GX3M6A1600C9 and kingston KHX1600C9D3K6/24GX these kits are made specifically for 24gig setups that allow you to overclock the memory up to 1600mhz

24GB of memory at 1600MHz is not guaranteed to work in all system configurations but the two above kits have been known to work when overclocked to 1600MHz
