Crosshair V Formula - New Bios out! Version 1102

Hi,

there is a new Bios available for the Crosshair V!

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/Crosshair_V_Formula/#download

Does anybody have a changelog for this? Improved system stability doesn't say that much 😉

Hopefully they built in a new RAID Option Rom.

Cheers,

Christian

Thanks for the update!
The Raid option ROM is the same as the prior versions.

This bios works as well ( overclocking included ) as all the others on a 1100T .

there's even a new chipset driver! i wonder if this is in conjunction with the microsoft hotfixes?
1. AMD FX-8150, ASUS Crosshair V Formula, ASUS 660 ti DirectCU II TOP x 2 in SLi, 8GB G.Skill RipjawsX 2133mhz DDR3, Seasonic X-1050 1050w, Windows 8 Pro

2. AMD Phenom II X6 1055t, ASUS Crosshair II Formula, Inno3D GTX 560 x 2 in SLi, 4GB OCZ 1033mhz DDR2 SLi-series, FSP Aurum 750w, Windows 8 Pro

No, Its still a very old driver, Theres only one driver for the chipset that our boards use and its the USB-Filter driver, Its for USB 1.0 not showing up in the add-remove icon.

Even the latest driver 11.12 from AMD currently has no drivers in the driver package for the southbridge driver, First time ive seen this happen. I opened up the ASUS latest one and the USB filter driver is dated from 2010. The driver 11.11 SB driver had a date of 8th month of 2011.

So another words we dont need to install any chipset drivers. Unless you didnt pre-install the AHCI driver upon WIndows 7 installation.

I did look in the latest driver package 8.95 aka 12.x and it includes a USB-Filter driver from the 12th month of 2011. I read the RTF inside it and it only mentions the USB-Filter driver being used on the SB800 series, So our SB900 series doesnt even need them.

The only driver I use is the AMD SATA Controller driver. And the latest on that is version 1.2.1.321 and its dated 10/28/2011

I have modified 1102 with the most current option rom I found from MSI 990FX-GD80 Bios Version 11.8

Old (Asus 1102) Version: 3.2.1540.44
Updated Bios AMD Option Rom: 3.3.1540.14

I just ordered this board and its on the way. I have no way to test the modified bios. I am not sure what the forum rules are but I am happy to share the modified bios if someone is willing to try it. Send me a PM. 😮

GREAT to hear. Thanks for your feedback.

Can you do some benchmark with the new ROM and confirm all the caching/write forward options are now available?

Since this modified bios is confirmed working, I am posting a link to my bios. Please remember flashing involves risk (bricking your board, loss of data on your RAID array etc.). Have a recovery option in place before flashing.

1102 - Updated AMD Option ROMs

Changes Made:

1. Updated AMD Option ROM to 3.3.1540.14 (Source: MSI 990FXA-GD80)
2. Updated AsMedia Option ROM to 0.951 (Source: MSI X79A-GD65)

* - Includes Asus DOS Flash Tool

Please provide feedback on RAID performance with updated ROMs

Dear Spooky!

Your ASUS Crosshair V Formula BIOS 1102 patch is workable, but I have to note the following:

1. If the keyboard is attached through USB2PS2 connector (to USB 2.0 or to USB 3.0 ports - no difference) it is not initialized during wake-up or soft reboot.

2. The keyboard attached through USB2PS2 is initialized only after power-on, or you need to replug it.
And the original BIOS 1102 correctly does the keyboard initialization attached this way.

I suppose that the point is in ASMEDIA ROM files which are not so necessary to be modified.

Could you provide the patched BIOS 1102 _ONLY_ with RAID ROM replacement (3.2.1540.44 -> 3.3.1540.14)?

Could you, please, provide or recommend the tools and batch-files you use to modify the BIOS, I would modify it myself by your instructions.

The new RAID ROM usage allows: to set 3 caching modes by choice with RAIDExpert, if you use the latest AMD RAID driver 3.3.1540.22 (AMD Chipset Driver 12.1) and fresh AMD RAIDExpert 3.3.1540.12. The 1st caching mode appears the most productive both for reading and writing operations (both for SSD and HDD) -
Read Cache Status: Read Ahead
Write Cache Status: Write Back

(Note that these settings are additional ones to cache settings in drivers tree and they do not replace or duplicate them!)

With the latest driver the double reading speed is achieved also in RAID 1 mode (8 MB blocks) for HDDs

So, there is a reason to use 3.3.1540.14 latest RAID BIOS.

Waiting and hope to receive the patched BIOS 1102 for ASUS Crosshair V Formula with RAID module replaced only, and the set of tools (or links) to do it, if possible.

I'd like also to change the RAID BIOS on my second box - ASUS M4A79T-Deluxe on FX790 chipset. The BIOS is not EFI, and the approach to modify it is different. Waiting for your recommendations.

Thank you in advance.
