Brighttail: I'm currently running the 7740X - 16 lanes with none available for the CPU DIMM2 so I can't check out whether 2 will work.

I think Noctua's colors are part of the cuteness. I'm using 4 FS_FAN headers for convenience. 3-pin Y-cables are cheap.

I think a RAID across DMI and CPU lanes would be unbalanced and not work well even for data let alone booting.

Ok got a question for all you guys with the Apex in hand already, I have mine but wanting to see if I have a defective board or not.

I am running a Dimm.2 in the CPU_dimm.2 slot with a single 960 pro installed in the _1 side of the Dimm.2 However I have noticed the RED led that lights up beside the Dimm slot/port/connection that lights up when an M.2 is plugged in is ON both sides of the Dimm.2. Even tho there is only a single M.2 on the Dimm.2 both sides red led is on. Is this normal? Can anyone confirm theirs does or doesn't do this? I have tried the other Dimm.2 and it does the same thing both side red leds turn on. I hope this makes sense I am trying to not waste my time if this is something that is happening to everyone and not do an RMA.

Any news on the availability in Europe ?
All merchants listing the board as ordered but no date.

Mine does this too.. I assume it just means it has power.

I saw a pair of jumpers on the DIMM.2 card which I assume will turn off the light, and possibly disable that port

    Bootable RAID ?

I think you are right about it being slightly faster on the CPU lanes... I was getting 3300 read speed on 1_1, but only 2900 on 2_2 (not entirely sure if it is because 2 slots are filled, or because it is CPU vs chipset... it could be like having 8 RAM slots filled vs 4 since it is only a 4x pathway for 2* 4x drives)

Either way, I am happy with the speeds I'm getting... 5900/4200 is blazing fast
Been following this thread with extreme interest. Just received my Apex and am anxious to investigate the RAID option(s). Is your 2xNVMe configuration on the CPU_DIMM.2 bootable? And which RAID version did you implement - VROC or RST?

While you are at it try both the CPU DiMM slots. One should definitely be bootable with a 28lane CPU. Both should be with a 44.

Tested a 7740X on my Apex today, I had it delidded by SL and they binned it at 5.3GHZ @ a 1.45 volts which is spot on, it will run XTU bench at 5.5 GHZ @ 1.5 volts with a Gskill 3600CL15 kit at 4133 using water chiller for cooling, I need to play with memory speed and timings some but board is really nice, easy to overclock at least with the little 4 core chip, now to wait and see how well the HCC chips overclock before I decide on a permanent CPU

    Attachment 67082

I chose 40mm fans and this bracket orientation in order to have: 1) Air blow on SSDs on both sides of the DIMM.2, 2) Air blow on the two DRAM slots and 3) not invade the CPU cooler space.

    Attachment 67083

Notice that the DRAM is smack up against the VRM heatsink. They're close on the other side, too.

    Attachment 67084

Both sides populated. I tried both the screws provided with ASUS' brackets and rubber anti-vibration fasteners from Noctua. Those cute little fans are so quiet that there was no difference in noise. The screws give a more solid mount, so I'll use those.

    Attachment 67085

Adding a 80mm PWM fan for the VRMs. Mounting an 80mm fan to the provided bracket didn't work out. There's also an issue of plugging in the 8-pin PSU cables with the fan in place or attaching the fan bracket with the cables in place. On an open testbench, I don't need a solid mount. The fan sits on the VRM heatsink and the PSU cables. The fan is connected to the Chassis Fan 1 header and set in BIOS to be driven by the VRM temperature sensor.

    Attachment 67086

Ready to boot if I was using a 28- or 44-lane CPU. The 40mm fans are connected to Full Speed fan headers and still run quietly. You can see why I want to keep fans out of the CPU cooling space.

    Attachment 67087

With a 7740X (KabyLake, 4 cores, 16 PCIe lanes, 2 memory channels) running properly in Windows. The fans really are spinning, but are 'stopped' by the camera flash.

    Attachment 67088

Edit: With these fans, the NVMe SSD runs about 10C cooler than the same SSD runs on the DIMM.2 of a M6Apex without fan.
Hey Jab383, did you get 2 kits of 4400mhz, do you see a setting in the bios for 4400?, the highest I see is 4226 and don't know if you have to have memory rated for 4400 before that setting shows up
Is you CPU delidded? what speed are you getting out of it?

Menthol: Yes I got 2 kits of DDR-4400. Put both in for pictures but using only one with the 7740X.

I set XMP to see how it would get there with only 4266 ratio available. It booted instantly. It used the 4133 ratio and 106.5MHz BCLK. When I manually set the 4266 ratio, the board didn't boot. I'm currently using 106.5x47 when tuning timing, but not getting far. Only 18.19.19.28.2 and only stable with DRAM voltage below 1.62. I tried up to 1.85. Looks like those sticks don't scale well. After I finish with third timings, I'll try with lower clocks to see if bandwidth and scores get better.

My 7740X is not delidded yet. I use y-Cruncher for stability testing and it is AVX intensive -- a great test for CPU and RAM. The 7740X gets hot with core clock over 5.0GHz. I get 106.5 x 47 = 5005MHz at 1.25 Vcore. With that low voltage, I'm expecting more when it runs cooler. Rockit Cool put a first notice of their 2066-sized delidder on their web site yesterday. It may be another week before that CPU is delidded.

I like most things about the R6A. I seems stable, boots quickly (very quickly compared to R5E10) and DDR-4400 XMP worked out of the box. BIOS is easy and familiar, but more like a Maximus than a Rampage. For instance absolute values for third DRAM timing rather than offsets.

MemTweakIT didn't allow setting timing in windows, but I just noticed a new version I'll have to try. There doesn't seem to be a version of BootSetting - gets from Windows directly to BIOS - that runs with this board. I have an unanswered post about that. The support page offers no drivers or utilities for Windows 7 and doesn't mention Windows 8.1 as an option to select. I'm checking the utilities listed under Windows 10 to see if they're compatible with Win7, e.g. the new MemTweakIt. There are so many benchmarks that work best in Win7 that I don't want to give it up even if Microsoft doesn't "support" Win7 for these CPUs.
