If the X299 Rampage VI Extreme still has kinks, so does the Apex yet it's out. To me it looks like the R6E is being held back for the big cpu's. Either that or Asus is preventing the canabalization of other models like the $500 Dlx that people aren't rushing out to buy. It's also possible that the RE6 is having production issues we are not aware of. I cancelled my preorder and am going with plan B. Once I figure out what that is, I'll be set.

I hope this delay can signal a change in the stupid INTEL / VROC policy to release RAID 0-1 without the need for dongle or INTEL SSDs / NVme.
Anyway, I think INTEL is sinking in front of AMD and taking ASUS on the boat.

Ok looking into the crystal ball here....

The Apex Video was released on 7/28/17 and was generally available last week. So about 3-4 weeks after the video.

The Rampage VI Extreme video was released on 8/21/17. So if they are timing the PR to the availability we should see something in the next 1-2 weeks. So that would put it between now and the second week of September. There is an uptick in extreme sightings and news (not much). It sounds like Raja went to HQ for some things. I would think that perhaps the launch of the Extreme would be one of them.

EVGA finally let it slip roughly when there boards will ship (Sept-Oct). They had been pretty tight lipped as well.

No amount of conjecture or prediction will change things. It would be nice to have a ballpark idea though so I could plan my time off to build my new system.

I don't think that the Extreme will launch with any fanfare at all, just as the Apex just showed up on retail sites with no additional fanfare. The R6E/R6A fanfare was already presented back in May at Computex in Taipei.

The IFA Berlin consumer electronics trade show started today, and the R6E was not even mentioned at the Asus press event that was dominated by VR-ready laptop announcements. The Asus vice president announced "the moment that you have all been waiting for" is the Asus ZenBook Flip 14:

The laptop and VR markets are far bigger than the HEDT crowd. So I continue passing time looking at the only R6E build out there right now:

Asus needed Peter Brands to have set up the RGB lighting in advance, instead of using that annoying blinking mode.

When you said that you "plan my time off to build my new system", do you actually take vacation days off from work to build your system, or are you just referring to weekend and evening "time off"? That's dedication if you use vacation days to build your rig. My wife would have me building my rig in the doghouse if I canceled all other weekend activities.

Well to be honest it is much easier when I can have the house to myself. It would most likely only be a day or two at most. I have a lot of vacation time and hardly use it. Lol. Weekends are usually busy for me too. So if I can take off a day or two to build when the kids are in school/college and the wife's at work then that is a win.

You are probably right about the fanfare thing. I think it will also be released in a similar way to Apex. One day it will magically be there.

Oh it has to be done by now. I am holding out until Newegg or Amazon get it in the US. They usually get things quicker here than other places. I think once they are available they should be in decent supply.

Hey, look on the bright side of life, there could be one or two more BIOS updates and several more revisions of drivers by the time that R6E is released, so the BIOS and drivers should be much more troublefree compared to most mobo launches.

And compared to a hurricane going on an extreme rampage and slamming into Houston, or people going on an extreme rampage and slamming cars into crowds, or a dictator with an ugly haircut threatening to go on an extreme rampage by slamming nuclear missiles at other countries, waiting one or two more weeks for a shiny $650 mobo that billions of people cannot afford is NOTHING.
