So here is what i'm seeing. Based off the picture without the I/O shield and the manual we see the heat pipe attaches to a secondary heat sink that covers 3 chips, tho the 10G seems to be the only one that we have to worry about when it comes to dissipating heat.

In my diagram I show that there are at least three screw holes. The lower one I'm assuming is for the I/o Shield cover.

The upper two I believe is for the Wifi card so will not be usable. My guess is the actual heat sink and pipe is held in place through adhesive. On the good side the sink over the 10g doesn't seem to be too thick. If you look under the heatsink you can see just the edge of the chip peaking out. I honesty think there is room for a m.2 heatsink like you shows with EK. Tho with three chips any adhesive you use would have to be reconsidered.

Well, at least we got some movement with the Apex this week. What's another week, right?

In a way I feel like I am driving a car where the fuel gauge shows the marker below "E" and we are trying to see how far we can still drive it.

Most definitely! I think everyone who is just using one GPU in their R6E should either place it in the PCIe x16/x8_3 slot running at x16 or use an open-frame chassis like the Thermaltake Core P5 with a PCIe riser cable to not cover up too much of the lovely PCIe armor plating that added a chunk to the R6E's cost. After all, you might as well maximize the benefits of what you paid for. Or if your build is not for gaming purposes, like my R6E workstation build, you put the GPU at the very bottom x8_4 slot, assuming that your case does not have a tall power supply shroud that prevents that slot from holding a GPU, and the entire span of shiny armor and RGB lighting will remain open for viewing. In the x8_4 slot, you can run at x8 if the DIMM.2 M.2_2 is not used, or at x4 if the DIMM.2 M.2_2 is used.

Modder Peter Brands has created some amazing multi-GPU builds before. But since his Tou build is being used for an upcoming Asus publicity event, adding dual-GPU SLI would negate much of the beauty (and sales promotion) of that PCIe cover plating. I have two 1080 Ti's and a 7700K in a gaming build that stays the same. But if I were to move the GPUs over to a X299 build, I would probably get the Apex instead of the Extreme. The Extreme still has the amazing I/O cover, but it would bug me too much that most of the PCIe armor's dazzle is now blocked from view.

    AWC2R6E

(Another Week Closer To Rampage VI Extreme)

Just for fun speculation (and this is a lot less futile than buying a Powerball ticket), my probability guesses for R6E release date are:

    Aug 28 to Sep 1: 40%
    Sep 4 to Sep 8: 40%
    Sep 11 to Sep 15: 15%
    Sep 18 to Sep 22: 5%

This is predicated on Intel's previous Aug28/Sep25 i9 release dates still being true. I think a Sep4-Sep8 release could equally happen, or the R6E may even be purposely delayed into Sep11-Sep15 if it was Intel's intent to sway more buyers to wait for the Sep 25 release of the 14, 16, and maybe-18 core i9 ("maybe" because some rumors state an October release for the 7980XE). If both the 7920X and R6E release next week, many people may succumb to build-it-sooner temptation, instead of first ordering the R6E, having the mobo sit for four weeks, and waiting for Intel's other higher-profit-margin i9's on Sep 25. So this delay would be at Intel's request to Asus, and for Intel's benefit.

Anyway, I think there is no R6E today. Wife and I are heading out for a weekend of mountain biking and rock climbing. I have some robot scripts watching sites, so if the R6E does still pop up today, you might hear really loud tires screeching to a stop up in the mountains.

Watching Peter Brands' R6E build updates is like someone who has not eaten for two months watching diners eating 9-course meals at a Michelin 3-star restaurant:

I'm curious why the communication from Asus is so bad that they're giving no info. Even Raja is actually saying nothing useful about the release date... IMO the communication to the customers could be a lot better, especially in this situation with such an expensive product.

Too many things in the chain to reliably predict it, so easier for me not to guess or get overly involved. The board will be released, and when it is, it will sell like crazy. If you're tired of waiting, there are a host of options out there that you can purchase.

I can understand that. But a bit more of information could be given easily I suppose?

Buying another product isn't an option as we're this long in waiting and I guess Asus know that...

As stated in the previous post, it's not easy to give dates.

Is it safe to say we will see the board in the next 1-2 weeks at least?
