Two screws hold the I/O heatsink onto the mobo. The heatsink is molded such that part of it extends downward and presses onto the 10G chip. I am still waiting to see EK's package before I add my own little heatsink. It really is not a big deal... more just a small hassle of extra work. It is not like trying to design your own air cooler for a CPU.

Yeah... it is still disappointing if EK does nothing and ignores the issue. I have a couple old m.2 heat sinks that I figure out a way to put over the chip if I need to. For me, I'm not planning right now to use the 10G ethernet port as I have no need, but down the road, ya never know. I'm sure if EK does nothing, within 30 days of the monoblock release, some enterprising individual will cut heatsinks that can use the screws and offer a thermal pad for 10-20bux plus shipping.
On another note I think I might finally spring for the Aida 64 basic suite to test this thing. I've really only used Real Bench in the past since I'm not stressing the MB for long periods of time but with some new projects coming I can honestly see rendering times of 2-3 hours. So gotta make sure I can get it fully stable.

Hi guys! Thank you for the previous recommendation on cases - all the pieces for my build should be arriving shortly this week ... Or the next, depending on the ekwb monoblock shipping sooner or later. I have a few questions for the resident experts though:
1) what length of riser cable should i use to mount a second video board vertically on a phanteks elite? I'm guessing 9 cm would be enough.
2) I'm planning to use two 960's on the dimm2, as cpu, raid-0, non bootable for apps and another 960 on the single chipset slot for booting. Will this work? I know it would work if the dimm2 is on chipset, but that would be meaningless due to the bandwidth cap.
Any help will be for sure welcomed!

Wow you are getting a Enthoo Elite, I'm jealous. I would start by asking Phanteks if they could provide you with a second riser cable first. I mean you just spent 900 bux, give it a shot. 9CM should be more than enough. Just make sure you have just one curve if it is longer than needed, bunching it up next to the motherboard can cause issues.
Concerning your M.2 question I was going to do something similar when I was going to buy the 7820x. Yes you should be able to do this with no issue, but if the m.2 slot at the bottom can use the CPU lanes, I would do that instead of the chipset. With the Apex, there has been some comments out there that using the chipset with an M.2 drive actually slows the drive down well below what it is capable of. Not sure if this will translate to the R6E. I might even consider a PCI-e card you could put your m.2 on (if you can fit it under/above the vertical GPU bracket) and that way it runs off the CPU lanes.Panteks Enthoo Elite / Asus x299 Rampage VI Extreme / Intel I9-7900X / Corsair Dominator RGB 3200MHz

This armor has a lot of places to lose screws on installation. Can you use a magnetized screwdriver to fasten the motherboard, or is this still not recommended?

The magnet on a magnetized screwdriver is not strong enough to affect either the mobo or hard drives. I have been using my Snap-On magnetized screwdriver (which uses a stronger magnet compared to most screwdrivers) for years on mobos and hard drives without issues. The R6E mobo has about four or five different sizes of small screws, so keep track of what goes where.

I may have missed a few pages, but I have the black EK mono block pre-ordered:
https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-fb-asus...-acetal-nickel
What are you guys angry about with respect to this? *They havent even shipped any yet as far as I know so no one here could have gotten ahold of one to personally experience fit or cooling issues.
You guys guessing at fitting / coverage problems? *I'd imagine EK wouldn't ship it unless it fits perfectly and requires zero mods to the mobo?
PS. *Can someone explain to me WTF is with this forum inserting random * into my posts? *It never used to do this, starting happening 6 months ago or so. *I generally post on here from my MacBook so Im using Safari. *Wonder if its a browser specific problem *Last edited by skypine27; 09-26-2017 at 08:27 AM.

Here is another EK response. There may be hope! :
"Hello again,
Our R&D team is already looking into solving also that rising question about 10G chip and they will come up with a solution soon we hope.
I notified them again to take care of 10G as well. It's in progress.
