Hi, I have a delidded 7980xe running watercooled on my Apex 3105. I have been able to run the system between 4,4 GHz - 4,6 GHz. However once in a while instabilty issues occured.
Therefore I simply went back to default and have been happy up to now. However I want to give it a try again. Is there a basic OC guide on this page? I am not looking for gaining the last 50 Mhz, but a stable 4,4 GHz with lowest power drawn as possible was fine. I have searched many sites, but have not really found something useful. Id like Speed step to turned on. Lowering voltage and multiplier if in idle.

Hi there,
Others more knowledgeable on me will probably chime in, until then I will try to help you. When you say once in a while instability issues occurred - how often, and what were you doing at the time on the pc when it happened? Need as much info as we can to help here - list your settings in bios voltages etc, and any other tweaked settings.
Generally as I am sure you know overclocking is always about compromise at some point - some chips just won't plat ball past a certain point. I would personally try playing with the voltage for the chip at overclock settings - try upping it by a very small amount, and then test for stability - see how long it takes to fall over when doing the same things as last time, and then up the voltage by another small margin until you get stability or temps become too much to control. You also need to remember that when overclocking it can make windows less stable, and the smallest thing like a slightly flaky driver can tip it over the edge. Stick with it, and keep trying - it takes time and patience to find the golden spot.
Hope this helps - btw there are plenty of good overclocking guides on the ROG site, and elsewhere - google is your friend, do some research as knowledge always helps.

Thanks for your reply. My first OC was a Pentium 166 MMX with 200 MHz. But the amount of options today just overwhelms me. To be honest, I have hoped for something like "Leave all untouched besides those four options. Use the following settings for those options. After that only adjust multiplier and voltage and test."
I guess that is not what the Apex is made for.
