Price are insane, 489$ cost Deluxe.
For that money I better to invest in used i7-6950X and OC him on 4.2GHz.
Price of i7-6950X used fall far below i9-7900X, somewhere between i7-7820X and i9-7900X, closer to i7-7820X.
I have 10 cores with flux solder and looks like better memory controller and my motherboard will serve me years.
Because price of motherboards are madness. Extreme can't cost over 500 euro. But now Apex is 550$. EVGA X299 Dark I think is plan to cost less than 400$.
These prices are not normal.
Many customers will want to upgrade from i7-6950X to i9-7900X and to pay extra 250-300$.
That's chance for people who hate paste who want to save money and want to 10 Cores.
I would really like to upgrade on X299, more than on X399,
and I really like Extreme 6 but this price is far above my budget if this is true that will completely reject people from upgrade for now.
Better to say I don't know person who pay so much for board in my country. I saw Rampage V in less than 5 configuration in my country.
Boards can't cost so much, and with previous prices bunch of people keep overclocked Xtreme processors on same frequency as on
ROG motherboards on ASUS X99-A, ASUS X99-S etc... They don't want to buy one motherboard 3 time expensive than that.
Special now when Threadripper is on the way price of X299 should be realistic because I hear many many angre comments because Intel politic, far more than after Ryzen is launched.
When I talk that X99 is better upgrade than Z platform no one listen me, now X99 could use CPU maybe 15-20% weaker than i9-7900X and his price will drop for more than half or price of new CPU.
With these prices I only could hope to find i9-7900X on discount as I found my i7-5820K and to sell i7-5820K+ RVE and invest in motherboard.
That's only chance, CPU and mobo will cover probably cost of X299 motherboard. But I need to find CPU on serious discount, ES, without warranty, delidded, anything...I WANT X299 Extreme.Last edited by Vlada011; 06-20-2017 at 12:17 AM.

Beto556,
You will need to check ASUS support page, at this time I don't see any QVL lists for any of the available motherboards but I would guess most of the newest kits for X99 will be compatible

Nah, as a fan of the extreme equipment (e.g. back a few 3960X Sandy Bridge E, and presently 6950X Broadwell E) I'll opt directly for the 7980XE, or whatever winds up replacing that. What could be better than going from extreme to Extreme extreme?
For the motherboards and also for the CPU's, the cost in the end will be roughly the same as it's always been for the current state of the art (for the public consumer), plus or minus a few. It never changes, so why worry about it? And also, the ROG extreme motherboards have been a fantastic line of products, so who cares if the cost is a little bit higher? In perspective, when you're spending many thousands of bucks and also lots of time and effort on a build, who cares if you had to spend an extra 100 or so on a great motherboard? It's all about perspective. The R6E does look like a great product too.Last edited by davemon50; 06-20-2017 at 12:46 PM.

I does put me off though knowing that the R6E lacks features because they didn't get enough time to develop it because of intel, thunderbolt would of been nice being integrated into the board, 7980XE im thinking will be more than 44 PCI-e Lanes intel will push for more, time will tell if this is a limitation of X299 or just related to the CPU.

In this particular order?
So, Extreme in July? Trying to enjoy the summer while waiting but the money is burning through my wallet...
Edit. Oh man I couldn't resist. Just ordered the 7900X and the Strix mobo. Gonna get the Rampage VI Extreme anyway and it's best to always have a backup board. Another platform to add into my sig rigs!Last edited by xarot; 06-21-2017 at 09:55 AM.

Raja, What is the preferred water cooling solution for that you've guy tested on this CPU /Mobo? Will Corsair coolers suffice?
