I thought USB 3.0 is exactly the same as 3.1 GEN1 just a name change by the industry!!
I think too, the USB 3.0 and 3.1 "header" (internal connector) would be compatible
I had seen this connectors but "cut" my case for it bores me a lot

I will wait if a compatible connector is available and at the moment I do not have type C devices

For the front, you could go with one that fits in a 3.5" bay... has anyone tried one of these? (note: they all say gen 1 speed - 5gbps)

Thanks, but I can not use the bays at the front of the case

That recommendation is based on current, afaik.

So then if I run Live (+) from a SATA cable, common the ground from the board with the ground from the SATA (-), and run the data pin straight to the LEDs it should work?

    Awesome, 4m of 120 LED/m here I come

Don't know, haven't tried it. That much addressable effect is excessive for a nice looking system, I think.

    Hey Raja,

Does Asus send hardware out to OEM partners before the general public?

Eh, I was being hyperbolic. But I definitely will end up with more than 3A worth of LEDs if I go with what I'm planning.
Don't worry, I'll make a post here when it's built.
