Where is the best location to install a single m.2 drive on this board? Both for performance (direct to CPU) as well as heat. Thanks.

It depends. All spots be it the DIMM.2 slot, the M.2 slot and if you use a PCIe to M.2 card can be directly tied to the CPU lanes. Since you are using a single m.2 you can't use VROC, so any of the three would be the same. What then you have to decide on is do you want to actively cool the m.2? If you put it on the DIMM.2 you can put a fan on the DIMM.2. If you put it in the m.2 slot I don't believe there is a fan down there but there is a heatsink that will, with general airflow, cool the m.2. Finally the PCIe to M.2 card has several options of heatsinks to purchase that will keep the m.2 very cool.

Bottom line, all slots would work the same.

Thanks. I was thinking of getting that Angelbird heatsink and installing it into the last PCIe slot. Didn't know if that would compromise its performance.

Not familiar with that one. I know EK has a heatsink you clip on as well as alphacool.

I got the 80mm and 90mm. They will fit nicely on the DIMM.2 top bracket.

I'm hoping that one of them will fit on the VRM cooler, but I can always get a smaller fan too.

As we are getting individual addressing RGB, this means that (in theory) we will be able to control Corsair HD120 RGB fans (thanks to the research of this man) with nothing more than a custom adapter.
