Project: APEX

TechBeard

Hi, we are the techbead team (Sergey Mnev and Anton Osipov) from Russia. We would like to present you the APEX project.
A bit of history:
This project was originally conceived as just an unusual chassis, without much idea. We do not even want to do it any accent or just whiling away the time after the competition Case Mod World Series 2017. But every day this project involved us more and after the exhibition Computex2017 and the announcement of the motherboard ASUS ROG Rampage VI Apex he had a name: " APEX".
Now this project has become meaningful and we understand how it should be.

At this stage, we present you the outline of the project. Material from which the case will be made: steel and tempered glass.

Nice, ASUS Rampage VI Apex is extremely attractive motherboard.
And I don't say that because X shape PCB, I would maybe even like more with normal PCB but board is amazing and will look excellent in any PC.
I'm sure ASUS will optimize BIOS better than competition for Apex and Extreme boards and over time system will work better and better with different hardware.

Last years I used on Intel and I could say 99% that i9-7900X would be happiest choice for me, no matter on Threadripper.
Threadripper could be faster in multithreaded apps than i9-7900X, but what if his clock is 3.5GHz and single threaded performance as i7-5960X on stock clock and OC capability 300MHz. Intel with 10 cores on 4.5GHz is completely different. I would not even OC, not this time.
Only Intel Turbo Boost 3.0 and Apex is great board for that.
Off course Extreme is king but Apex fit in most expensive RIGs absolutely same.

Somehow I feel Intel X299 will have less bugs.
AMD X399 will work great but maybe will need little patience in start with few BIOS versions.
I would really like first i9 in my life. But I think Intel should think again about price after AMD show with thredripper.
Maybe easy i9-7900X to drop on i7-6850K level.

I know some people will be able to push i9-7900X to 5.0GHz, maybe only 20-30% of them but it's worth to people hope.
Off course only with liquid cooling and custom CPU block.

Of course this will be one of the best motherboards !!!
Russian overclocker under the pseudonym _12_ in the test mode with air cooling overclocked the processor i9-7900X 5300mhz when it was 1.3 volts!)))

Continuation of work on the project. The first parts of the case were made.

Details connecting the base metal shell with the base of the motherboard.
66314
66325
66317
The most difficult thing in production was the creation of the legs of the CASE!
66319
66320
66321
The base of the motherboard turned out to be rather small.

66323
The metal shell of the case and the video card holder

I like it thumbs up
It's not a crime to be lonely, It's me time.
if it's weak, more VCORE
If it's not like what you got

Thanks for the kind words)

And minor miscalculation (((((
I have to use the racks for the motherboard height 15mm

Work continues!!!

Work on the project continues, a point fitting was conducted:cool:

That's a nice paint job! How many hours of sanding were needed to turn that nasty old metal into a clean smooth surface?

Good progress!
