However, temperatures were definitely a concern with Cinebench and Terragen pushing 100°C with our 240mm AIO liquid cooler. As a result, while stable and potentially tameable under custom water-cooling, we decided to go for 4.6GHz for benchmarking, which required a super-low 1.22V. Interestingly our Core i7-6950X ran much cooler despite using a significantly higher voltage, albeit at 4.4GHz. This could well be due to thermal paste having been used between the heatspreader and CPU core with the new Skylake-X CPUs, in which case delidding could potentially yield significant benefits given the high heat density.
Lol. $1000 CPU which needs delidding if overclocking.

I am going to see what kind of clocks I can get on custom loop with 720mm rad space and a D5 pump for CPU only. Hoping to run older Prime95 on it with all cores at 4.5 GHz.

Then stick around because there's an Earth circumference sized line forming to purchase Intel's new 140W overheating monster regardless of price/performance ratio. I'm just curious to see what excuses people make up for these overpriced demons.

    Also:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/11550/...7800x-tested/7

"When we started testing for this review, the main instructions we were given was that when changing between Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors, be sure to remove AC power and hold the reset BIOS button for 30 seconds. This comes down to an issue with supporting both sets of CPUs at once: Skylake-X features some form of integrated voltage regulator (somewhat like the FIVR on Broadwell), whereas Kaby Lake-X is more motherboard controlled. As a result, some of the voltages going in to the CPU, if configured incorrectly, can cause damage. This is where I say I broke a CPU: our Kaby Lake-X Core i7 died on the test bed. We are told that in the future there should be a way to switch between the two without having this issue, but there are some other issues as well."
    ......Heh heh heh heh heh.

As mentioned, we had to use Alphacool's Eiszeit Chiller 2000 to achieve usable overclocking results. More conventional thermal solutions just wouldn't cut it. All-in-ones like Corsair's H100i and Enermax's LiqTech 240 hit their limits at stock frequencies under Prime95.
Not overclocked, still hot. Very nice.

i9-7900X is great CPU no doubt.
But there is more good news i7-7820X is better than 1800X both on stock settings.
After OC Intel is in even little bigger advantage I believe same as memory performance.
    That's nice to hear.

We only should wait to see what's going one with ASUS ROG motherboards and... maybe is 28 PCI-E lanes and 24 from PCH not so bad as we thought.
Thermal paste sound worse than that... so much that Intel will lost some percent of customers who will stay on i7-6900K and i7-6950X.

Is there any chance to Intel change mind with next batches and replace plaste with solder?
